Subject: Born into the Kingdom of God? |
Bible Note: You ask: "Building what?" Perhaps I should have add verses 10-11 in order to get the context of the paragraph. Paul is refering to building on the foundation of Christ Jesus. We build by the works we do after salvation. But what can those works amount to if you know nothing of the foundation on which Jesus Christ would have you build? To say you build on Him can be a truth but what is the depth of that truth? If you examine what He says you will see it is the Kingdom message that He commissions those who know Him, to preach. Can a saved but carnal Christian do that? Can I stay in my carnality and claim the name of Jesus for myself while not abandoning myself to Him and do the great commission? ------------------------------------- "No, works will not keep me saved. That's part of 1 Cor 3 that I quoted. If we believe on the Lord Jesus, we will be saved even if we do a poor job in this life." What do you mean "poor job in this life". He calls us to perfection. Matthew 5:48 (NASB) "Therefore you are to be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect. But can you do that with the attitude of 'just being saved'? ---------------------------------------- "You should worry about works for two reasons. First, because God wants us to do them. Ephes. 2:10 (ESV" What kind of works do you think He means? ---------------------------------------- "For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them." The operative word here is "prepared". How is one prepared? Who's initiative is it that we should be in a prepared state? Hint: "Many are called..." ---------------------------------------- "Second, because they prove to others the faith we have. James 2:18-20 (ESV) But someone will say, "You have faith and I have works." Show me your faith apart from your works, and I will show you my faith by my works. [19] You believe that God is one; you do well. Even the demons believe?and shudder! [20] Do you want to be shown, you foolish person, that faith apart from works is useless? What faith is this, your's? Your [or my] faith can never be pleasing the God in the sense that these verses refer. If you are born again you are to live by the faith of Jesus Christ who is in you. His faith alone is pleasing to God because it is the only faith equal to God, Himself. You and I are to practice that faith to show ourselves approved. Now our WORKS will demonstrate our FAITH not to be 'just in' Christ, but 'OF' Christ. Now, show me your works that will reveal Christ in you because your works will originate IN the mind of God! He calls us to perfection....His. Can you see that? "Let this mind be in you that was in Christ Jesus.... [see also Romans 8.2] |
