Subject: Does anyone really *do* this? |
Bible Note: Why thank you, Hank! You know that if you lived anywhere in close proximity to me, that you and your family would be invited over to my house to eat and have dinner anytime! :) I agree: we can only meet the needs of those who are needy when we can only gather up enough courage (or guilt) to form a church committee to do so! What a poor example and what a far cry from what we are commanded to do by our Savior! I live in probably the nicest house on the whole block. I own two cars, am financially stable and I have a job that I can be very thankful for! And yet I live right next to some people who are barely making it, struggling to pay their rent. The property that I live on has been in my family's name and possession for fifty years, and I am blessed in every way! Is there any reason why I keep inviting people over who are in the same social status as I am and neglect to have my poorer neighbors over? I see that I need to break a certain "unseen" barrier that exists and begin to reach out to those who have not been as blessed with the material things that I have.. In that way, I can use some of my "earthly" treasure to obtain that which is "heavenly!" You are absolutely right! I am steeped in a "comfort zone" that I am so unwilling to break! My thoughts go to the cross and how Jesus gave up His "comfort zone" at His Father's right hand and went to do what He did for us on the cross.. --Nolan |
