Bible Question:
If God gave us brains, why wouldn't he want us to use them? Let me explain... assume that He really did give us our brains and the power to think. Why would He punish us ("be condemned") for not following the crowd (Christians) and thinking for ourselves? A thinking person does not blindly believe, lets take me for example (Yes I'm full of myself). I have heard the Gospel and I am as of yet a disbeliever, because there is so much do doubt about every religion that I've heard about, and NO proof? Anyone who know's the answer PLEASE tell me, rjohnson@mailbird.net . |
Bible Answer: Greetings Luke! I agree with Hank's response to you my friend, but I would like to address a couple of points you made. I fully believe that God does intend for us to use our minds. However, I believe that accepting Christ is the best use of our minds, not an example of simply going along with the crowd. Here is the problem with your premise, as I understand what you are saying: Truth is objective. People "use their minds" all the time, yet make wrong choices. People ignore facts that don't suit them. "Using one's mind" is not a a guarantee of being 'right'! In the case of the Gospel, you are presented with objective truths. Some can be supported through history, science, experience, ect... While others must be accepted by an act of will. You are asked to make a decision by God. But, to make that decision solely based on evidence or proof would be foolish. Yes, examine the evidence. But, remember that our thoughts are sinful and selfish. I pray that God will draw you to Him and that one day soon, you will be writing here, not just as a new friend, but as a brother in Christ as well.
