Bible Question:
Kalos, Then, back to my original question, how did the OT people call God YHWH in their prayer? Thank you. |
Bible Answer: Hi 00123, I believe some of the names used are Elohim, Elohay, and El Elyon. There are many (about 30) names that describe attributes of Adonai, and it doesn't seem unreasonable that these attribute/names might be used in prayer according to what was being desired. If they were desiring sustenance, they might have used Jehovah Jireh (Gen. 22:14 - The Lord sees/provides); if they needed to be saved from an enemy they might have used the attribute Elohay Yishi (Ps. 25:5 - the God of my salvation); if they were being falsely accused or been misused they might have used the attribute/name Elohay Mishpat (Isa. 30:18 - the God of Justice). They could use these (and the others) in praise and worship as well. Do a study of the attribute/names in the O.T., they are fascinating. If this helped answer your question and you would like more of the attribute/names feel free to check my profile and email me, I'd be happy to send you a list. blessings cheri |
