AMPLIFIED 2015 | Matthew 26:39 ¶ And after going a little farther, He fell face down and prayed, saying, "My Father, if it is possible [that is, consistent with Your will], let this cup pass from Me; yet not as I will, but as You will." |
Subject: How did Matthew know what Jesus prayed? |
Bible Note: Good reference. Doesn't one need to be "awake" to be taught and inspired? Your point is well taken, but how much better is it for us to be awake and listening rather than to be shaken from our slumber? IMO, THIS is the message of that portion of Scripture. It is a warning for us to be alert and ready to receive that which the Lord has purposed for us to know (and act upon?). One must be "awake" unto Him to hear His voice above the snores of the world. Isn't this God's desire for us? (Watch and pray) And yet many choose to do as these disciples did - sleep. Indeed, "not as I will, but as You will." |
