NASB | Matthew 18:6 but whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to stumble, it would be better for him to have a heavy millstone hung around his neck, and to be drowned in the depth of the sea. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | Matthew 18:6 but whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to stumble and sin [by leading him away from My teaching], it would be better for him to have a heavy millstone [as large as one turned by a donkey] hung around his neck and to be drowned in the depth of the sea. [Mark 9:42; Luke 17:2] |
Bible Question: April is Child Abuse Awareness month. I have in my mind these words: "Who so ever should hurt a child deserves to have a heavy stone placed around his neck and be dropped into the deepest part of the ocean." Did Jesus teach this? And, if so, where in the scriptures can it be found? |
Bible Answer: Jesus had a child on his lap when he said this. It would not be wrong to take it literally and connect it to the topic of child abuse. KJV: "But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were thrown in the depth of the sea." |
