AMPLIFIED 2015 | Matthew 13:33 ¶ He told them another parable, "The kingdom of heaven is like leaven, which a woman took and worked into three measures of flour until all of it was leavened." [Gen 18:6; Luke 13:21] |
Bible Question:
According toI VP Bible Background Commentary, three pecks of flour was all a woman could knead. What is the significance of this to the verse? I had always thought that numbers were specifically meaningful in Scripture. mommapbs |
Bible Answer: Hi Mommapbs, Try it in the Kings English: Gen 18:6 And Abraham hastened into the tent unto Sarah, and said, Make ready quickly three measures of fine meal, knead it, and make cakes upon the hearth. Matt 13:33 Another parable spake he unto them; The kingdom of heaven is like unto leaven, which a woman took, and hid in three measures of meal, till the whole was leavened. Three measures of meal was counted as an offering to the LORD, but leaven is a type of sin. This parable would have startled Jesus' Jewish audience. Does this help? Love in Christ, Mark |
