AMPLIFIED 2015 | Matthew 13:33 ¶ He told them another parable, "The kingdom of heaven is like leaven, which a woman took and worked into three measures of flour until all of it was leavened." [Gen 18:6; Luke 13:21] |
Bible Question:
According toI VP Bible Background Commentary, three pecks of flour was all a woman could knead. What is the significance of this to the verse? I had always thought that numbers were specifically meaningful in Scripture. mommapbs |
Bible Answer: Hi Mommapbs, Please see my note to Mark below. Matthew 13:34, "All these things Jesus spoke to them in parables, and He/ did not speak to them without a parable, 35 so that what was spoken through the prophet might be fulfilled, saying, "I will open My mouth in parables; (I) will utter things hidden since the foundation of the world."" John 3:25, "The woman said to Him, "I know that Messiah is coming (He/ who is called Christ); when that One comes, (He) will declare all things to us." The slashes and parentheses for comparison are mine. From the heart, Ray |
