Bible Question:
According toI VP Bible Background Commentary, three pecks of flour was all a woman could knead. What is the significance of this to the verse? I had always thought that numbers were specifically meaningful in Scripture. mommapbs |
Bible Answer: Greetings Mommapbs! I apologize for the delay in getting back with you regarding this verse... In Matthew 13:33 when Jesus says, "The kingdom of heaven is like leaven, which a woman took and hid in three pecks of flour until it was all leavened", I personally interpret it in the following way: as the leaven rises, the kingdom of heaven spreads throughout the dough, or throughout a person's life. It is interesting that the verse mentions the number '3'; the same number that represents the Triunity of God, the Three-in-One: The Father, The Son, and The Holy Spirit.. The Holy Spirit of whom would help the leaven "rise" (and the kingdom of heaven grow in us). Blessings to you, Makarios |
