AMPLIFIED 2015 | Matthew 13:33 ¶ He told them another parable, "The kingdom of heaven is like leaven, which a woman took and worked into three measures of flour until all of it was leavened." [Gen 18:6; Luke 13:21] |
Bible Question: How is the kingdom of heaven like leaven? |
Bible Answer: The flour (milled grains) is said to represent the kingdom of God comprised of single grains of wheat united in one body. In the bible, yeast is usually spoken of symbolically to mean evil as in Matt 16:11. Paul tells us to get rid of the old yeast from our lives because a little yeast can work through a whole batch of dough (Gal 5:9). Therefore it is believed that Jesus was warning the disciples the possibility of false doctrine, the yeast, being inserted into the body of Christ and affecting the whole body (Acts 20:29-30). |
