Subject: Did Mary remain a virgin? |
Bible Note: Goodness this is getting heated! I actually appreciate JCrichton's comments because, in my opinion he is correct. Steve, you requested scripture, I point back to the same scripture you have given, but look at them in their original Greek text. My point is actually being validated by your verses. Mary did not have other children, but Joseph did. Children that predated Jesus from a prior relationship. While we can not know for a fact that this is accurate, it certainly is supported. In fact, I looked for any scripture related to Jesus and brother -under the assumption that perhaps somewhere it would indicate the two in one sentence such as Jesus and his brother - and there were none. All related to other people. IN fact, the only scripture referencing James and Joses as Jesus' brothers, defines them as half-brothers -again going back to the Greek. Which would indicate that perhaps they were through Joseph, not Mary. Further, I disagree with your assertion that because brother meant one thing in Verse 46, it must mean the same in Verse 48... again, the same Greek word is used in both verses; however, every Greek word has many meanings. The word for brother in Greek has, as I indicated close to 7 definitions. It can in fact mean half brothers through Joseph or family members in verse 46 and 47 and then mean Behold my brothers as in brethren in Christ... |
