Bible Question: Scripture indicates Mary (Jesus' mother) had other children, but I believe I had heard that she was pure at birth and throughout her life... and remained pure to her death. Does anyone know the correct answer? |
Bible Answer: Although Mary was a virgin at Jesus's conception and birth (Luke 1:26-38), she could have and did have children after Jesus: "Isn't this the carpenter's son? Isn't his mother's name Mary, and aren't his brothers James, Joseph, Simon and Judas?" Matt 13:55 (NIV) "Someone told him, Your mother and brothers are standing outside, wanting to speak to you." Matthew 12:47 (NIV) This was not a sin, because she was married when she had sexual relations with her own husband. This also does not mean that she wasn't a virgin when Jesus was conceived. She just had more children after Jesus. |
