NASB | Matthew 12:32 "Whoever speaks a word against the Son of Man, it shall be forgiven him; but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit, it shall not be forgiven him, either in this age or in the age to come. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | Matthew 12:32 "Whoever speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven; but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit [by attributing the miracles done by Me to Satan] will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come. [Mark 3:29; Luke 12:10] |
Bible Question: What does Jesus mean when He says, "either in this age or in the age to come"? Does this mean while we are here on earth (this age) and when we are in heaven (the age to come)? |
Bible Answer: Makarios: I believe what the verse is very plainly saying is: "it shall not be forgiven him, either in this age or in the age to come." As I understand it, "either in this age or in the age to come" relates not to the time in which the sin is committed, but to the time in which it will not be forgiven. I would paraphrase (interpret) this verse to mean that this particular sin won't be forgiven NOW and it won't be forgiven LATER. I don't claim to have the one right answer. This is merely what I understand the verse to mean. kalos |
