Bible Question: In Matthew 10:23 my NIV Bible, Jesus says to his apostles that they will not finish going through the cities of Israel before the Son of Man comes? This can't mean Jesus' 2nd coming will happen before they finished going through the towns because he still hasn't come? So what does Jesus mean here? |
Bible Answer: Greetings Chusarcik, in reading the whole passage (16-23) it is clear that He can not be talking about a time whil he is still alive because until His death they were totally shielded from persecution. Jesus took all the persecution and opposition on Himself. Various commentaries interpret that this verse can either mean the time period after pentecost while others put an eschatological significance on it that it is talking about prior to and during the tribulation. The one I like the best is the International Bible Commentary that says that it is telling us that the work of carrying His gospel to the world will not be completed by either the apostles or those prior to us or by us today. prayon |
