AMPLIFIED 2015 | Matthew 10:23 ¶ "When they persecute you in one city [because of your faith in Me], flee to the next; for I assure you and most solemnly say to you, you will not finish going through all the cities of Israel before the Son of Man comes. |
Bible Question:
EdB, I guess I'm just having trouble with the wording of the scripture? Your answers makes sense, but each time I go back and read 10:23 literally, it looks like Jesus was saying to the apostles they would face persecution, but that He, Jesus would return before the apostles reached all the cities in Israel. How do we get they wouldn't run out of cities from that statement? I appreciate all the work you're putting into your answers and am just trying to reach an understanding that matches what the verse says, Chusarcik |
Bible Answer: Chusarcik God told Abraham he is descendants would be as the grains of sand on the beach. We know in a couple cubic yards of sand there are millions of grains of sand when we look at even one small beach there has to be billions and billions of grains of sand yet there is only 6 billion people on earth presently and less than twice that number has ever lived on earth.. Did God lie? No he was using hyperbole saying Abraham you cannot even imagine the number of descendants. Jesus was doing the same thing here. He was saying your going to experience much persecution for my sake, but when you do go to the next city. Don’t despair I will be back before you run out of cities. EdB |
