Bible Note: Greetings JMScott! My friend, I think you are making too much of a name. Check out the Bible: 1 Chronicles 7:27, Num. 1:10, and Num. 13:8 all detail that Joshua's father was Nun. Nun's father was Elishama. All of them were descendents of Ephraim, Joseph's son. The difference between Jesus and Joshua is simple, the Bible says that people thought Jesus was Jospeph's son, but the Bible says that Joshua was the son of Nun. Of course Joshua's name is based upon the word for 'Yahweh'. It simply means "Yahweh saves". My own name, Timothy, means "honoring God". It was not uncommon in those days to change a person's name in order to reflect that person's character or changed circumstances. Remember Abram, who became Abraham. Exodus 33 never says that Moses went into the tabernacle alone. Therefore, the only evidence we have is v. 11, which states that Joshua did not leave the tabernacle when Moses left it. Don't get me wrong! I believe that God was present with His people, but Joshua was just a man. Concerning John 10:17-18, there is nothing in the text that Jesus was dying for a second time. Notice the phrasing, "I lay down my life, that I may take it again." 'That' indicates purpose. He laid down His life for a purpose. The purpose was so that "He could take it again". He couldn't take it again unless He laid it down. The again doesn't indicate a second time. Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
