Bible Note: Greetings JMScott! Let's look at how the word is actually used in Scripture. 1) Mt. 4:7 (KJV and Greek): "Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God." How many times was it written? 2) Mt. 4:8 - "Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them;" How many times had Satan taken Him up to a high mountain? 3) Mt. 19:24 - "And again I say unto you, It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God." How many times did Jesus make this statement in Mt. 19? Clearly the word 'again' does not always refer two events. In John, Jesus refers to taking His life back after laying it down. 'Again' refers to His purpose for laying it down, not to two seperate events where He layed it down and took it back. The word 'palin' or 'again' is used in 5 distict ways in the New Testament. They include: back, return, therefore, again, and even in lists of similar items. Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
