AMPLIFIED 2015 | Obadiah 1:16 "Because just as you [Edom] drank on My holy mountain [desecrating it in the revelry of the destroyers], So shall all the nations drink continually [one by one, of My wrath]; Yes, they shall drink and swallow [the full measure of punishment] And become as though they had never existed. Subject: How does God judge and who? |
Bible Note: Hi Newwine, This just cannot be true. There are lots of unsaved people who change their behavior through behavior modification techniques. It certainly doesn't get them saved, but it does help them resist temptations. Look at 12 step programs. The law is given to constrain the behavior of evil-doers. Not to guide the saved. If all it does is condemn them, it isn't useful in this life. But if the penalty of the law prevents them from breaking it, we all benefit in this world. 1 Tim 1.8 But we know that the law is good, if a man use it lawfully; 9 Knowing this, that the law is not made for a righteous man, but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and for sinners, for unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers, 10 For whoremongers, for them that defile themselves with mankind, for menstealers, for liars, for perjured persons, and if there be any other thing that is contrary to sound doctrine; The position that I have taken is simply that Jesus' Holy and perfect life in the face of the same temptations we have, produces shame in us for not resisting temptation. I really do not understand the opposition to that statement. I do not understand how people say that we shouldn't have resisted temptation. If I err, I prefer to err on the side of preaching holiness rather than condoning sin. If the life of Christ does not put one to shame, then I would suspect that one does not understand their own sinfulness. |
