Bible Note: Hello again, Janice. King David writing in the 51st Psalm, verse 5, says this: "Behold I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me." And the question is posed in Job 25:4, "How then can man be justified with God? or how can he be clean that is born of a woman?" I cite these passages in view of a fragment of your post which reads as follows: "God clearly tells us a child is born without sin..." On the contrary, Janice, I beg to differ: The Bible teaches that we are all sons and daughters of Adam, whose fall in Eden is well documented, and thus, like Seth in Gen.5:3, we are born in "his (Adam's) own likeness, after his image." We are therefore heirs to the same sin nature. Now of course I would agree that willful acts of disobedience (you used homosexuality as one example) are not and cannot be committed by a new-born infant, but the seed of Adam is no less present, the sin nature lies dormant and soon will germinate. Sin is not something that is acquired and developed by our choosing it and making a conscious decision to sin. The reality is that human beings cannot live pure, sinless lives by their own acts of will. The Scriptures teach that "All have sinned and come short of the glory of God." (Rom. 3:23). If we could, of our own doing, live spotless and sinless lives before God if we wanted to, why then would it have been necessary for God to perform His mighty act of grace by sending His beloved Son to die so that through faith in His Son, the Lord Jesus, we might have eternal life? ..... I rather think, Janice, that inasmuch as you made this statement about babies being born without sin in conjunction with your thought (with which I fully agree) that there is no such thing as being born a homosexual, that you were endeavoring to refute the claim promulgated by some people today that "God made me that way" -- silly notion, that homosexuality is an inavoidable result of a defective gene. This is pure bunkum, and science has been utterly unable to find any such gene in human beings who engage in homosexual practice..... To sum up, I don't mean to take away anything from the impact of your post, or be picky, or certainly not to diminish your wonderful zeal for our Lord! But perhaps you might want to consider the points, though poorly voiced, which respectfully and lovingly I offer for your consideration. May the good Lord bless you. --Hank |
