AMPLIFIED 2015 | Daniel 1:8 ¶ But Daniel made up his mind that he would not defile (taint, dishonor) himself with the king's finest food or with the wine which the king drank; so he asked the commander of the officials that he might [be excused so that he would] not defile himself. Bible Question: Why did Daniel consider eating and drinking the king's choice food and wine would defile him? |
Bible Answer: Daniel knew the Law of the Torah and he apparently knew what the king ate and drank. Therefore, Daniel would know that eating the king's food would be a violation of the Law, which was something he would not want to break. Likewise in our day if one reads and studies the Bible he/she will know when something is a sin. (Sin is the transgression of the Law.) Otherwise, he/she won't. I hear people say "God hasn't convicted me of this or that." So? Why would anyone wait until God convicts them of a certain sin, when the Bible plainly tells us what things are sin? The written Word of God, forever settled in heaven (Ps 119:89 ), is much more reliable than our own subjective feelings. |
