NASB | Daniel 1:8 ¶ But Daniel made up his mind that he would not defile himself with the king's choice food or with the wine which he drank; so he sought permission from the commander of the officials that he might not defile himself. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | Daniel 1:8 ¶ But Daniel made up his mind that he would not defile (taint, dishonor) himself with the king's finest food or with the wine which the king drank; so he asked the commander of the officials that he might [be excused so that he would] not defile himself. [Num 6:1-4; 1 Cor 10:21] |
Bible Question: Thanks! With regard to the second reason, I have a follow-up question: Daniel did ask for vegetables to eat and water to drink (Daniel 1 V.12), the vegetables might not properly prepared by hand that weren't first washed and etc. - why this is acceptable to Daniel? |
Bible Answer: Scripture ... Lev 3:17, 7:19-27, 11:1-46, 19:26, 22:8; Num 6:1-4 ... Leviticus 11 is the main passage about food restrictions. The wine portion leads me to believe he took a vow, part of which included not drinking wine (Num 6:1-4). I don't see Scripture that required food to be washed ... I did list other passages of food restrictions. |
