Bible Question:
I am currently reading Isaiah and kinda became worried when I read chapter 45 verse 7 which states. "I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace and create evil: I the LORD do all these things." Did God create evil? This has really shaken my ideas about God. |
Bible Answer: Greetings Lmaddox8! Let me see if I can give you a simpler answer! :-) Hebrew poetry uses like words or opposite words to bring out meaning. In the case of Is. 45:7, the poetic form is using opposites. Light vs. darkness. Peace vs. evil. The word for 'evil' can have several meanings. In this case, it clearly has the opposite meaning of 'peace'. So, Is. 45:7 is saying that God makes peace and takes peace away. I hope this helps! Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
