Bible Question: There are some people who believe that we have free will, choice, and the ability to make our own decisions. Some even say that God changes His mind, so we must have choice.(ex: Sodom and Gomorrah) But when you read this verse from Ecclesiastes 6:10,"Everything has already been decided. It was known long ago what each person would be. So there's no use arguing with God about your destiny," it disproves this theory. So why are people still arguing about it? Or am I missing something? |
Bible Answer: Hi Samantha432, Your choice of translation for Ecclesiastes 6:10 is a praphrase. Thus there is no word "God" in the manuscript. There is no use arguing among ourselves about our destiny. I go with the NASB for Ecclesiastes 6:10b, "..for he cannot dispute with him who is stronger than he is. 11 For there are many words which increase futility. What then is the advantage to a man? 12 For who knows what is good for a man during his lifetime, during the few years of his futile life? He will spend them like a shadow. For who can tell a man what will be after him under the sun?" From the heart, Ray |
