Bible Note: Matthew 5:18 (NKJV) 18 For assuredly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled. I find it hard to believe anyone is seriously suggesting that Scofield is promoting antinomianism from the text you quoted. No where does he say “because of the gospel dispensation of grace the moral law is of no use or obligation because faith alone is necessary to salvation.” Nor did he say, “that Christians are exempt from the obligations of moral law." The two tests you provided as proof of antinomianism. Is he really saying cast off the restraints of God or is he saying Christians have an even more demanding set of guidelines? Jesus gave us two great commandments that encompassed all of 10 of the 10 commandments. And if we kept only the 10 we would fall short of what Jesus commanded us to keep in the two great commandments. |
