Bible Question:
The Law cannot get sin out of our life ... it told us what our sin was. Even since Christ, we need the Law to know the perfect standard. If we don't have Christ the penalty of the Law will kill us. Is the Law a covenant? Were there more than one covenant in the OT? |
Bible Answer: Andes, OT covenants would be the ones between God and Adam, God and Noah, God and Abraham, God and Moses, God and David. The New Covenant is between God and Jesus fulfilling all the old covenants. Those persons named being the Covenant mediators between God and man. The respective role of the mediators being Husband, Father, Chieftain, Judge, King, Royal High Priest. The respective Covenant forms being:Marriage, Household, Tribe, Nation, National Kingdom, the Church. The respective covenant signs being: Sabbath, Rainbow, Circumcision, Passover, Throne, the Eucharist(Holy Communion). In covenants each party binds themself personally to the other and each has obligations under the covenant. You would call this Covenant Law. Violating those obigations has consequences or curses attcahed to them. See Dueteronomy 27:9:-31:29 for a review of the blessing and curses of the Mosaic Covenant. You will notice that in every covenant between God and man that man always fails (with the exception of the God man Jesus)and God is always faithful. Emmaus |
