Bible Note: Hi Radioman2, I wrote my post to you in order to encourage you to bear with us. Blessed be the Lord, who daily bears our burden. We all have our "themes", our pet peeves, our main ideas that we stick to over and over, things we "dwell on", ideas we think are important but may not be, our own bias. But the bottom line is that God who hears our burden, (our repeated, central idea, theme), the burden of our speech, is the God of our salvation and is to us a God of deliverances. Be patient with us for God is not through with us yet. 1) I think that the "for us" of the God's Word translation, Psalm 68:9, would be better served to be the literal words used in verse 28. Psalm 68:28, "Your God has commanded your strength; Show Thyself strong, O God, who hast acted [lit. for us] on our behalf." 2) You have said that the "for us" clarifies the meaning of verse 19 in the God's Word translation. I would say that it extends the meaning and adds to it. It gives the idea that we had asked God to bear our burden for us. However, I would think that God bears our burden, shows Himself strong, and acts on our behalf, for us, on His own. 3) Sometimes I think God hears our burden, and we find deliverance from Him while we keep silent. I think of Exodus 14:13,14, "But Moses said to the people, "Do not fear! Stand by and see the salvation of the Lord which He will accomplish for you today; for the Egyptians whom you have seen today, you will never see them again forever. The Lord will fight for you while you keep silent." Isaiah 11:15, "And the Lord will utterly destroy the tongue of the Sea of Egypt." Matthew 12:36, "And I say to you, that every careless word that men shall speak, they shall render account for it in the day of judgment." On my part, I will try to be more balanced in the way I approach things. But bear with us. From the heart, Ray |
