Bible Question:
Greetings Steve! I understand that "proskuneo" refers to prostrating oneself before someone or something. However, where is there any Scripture that commands this to be the only position for worship? I don't recall any, but I could be wrong! Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
Bible Answer: Tim, Matthew 4:10. When the people gathered they knew that raising their hands and other positions (other than proskuneo) were not part of worship, but, of praise. This is a guess based on the context of when this happened in the Bible. Do we view worship like we do the word love? We can say we love the Lord, but it is only the love of a friend. We think that we do not have to go further. I think about Peter (John 21:15-19). We think we worship because someone has said that worship is raising your hands. I do not hear that we need to bow before the Lord very often. I think we need to be more precise in our meanings of the word we translate, in-cluding worship and love. Steve |
