Subject: Desire for GOOD? |
Bible Note: CDBJ - Agreed. An allegory. Some technical glitch occurred since kumkum posted the original question about the sweat as drops of blood along with some mention of Judas Iscariot. I replied to him, or so I thought. I do not see my note anywhere. But, think of this: The degree of agony Jesus felt as He was about to go to the cross - Why does the author, prompted by the Holy Spirit, put it the way he did? The author knew what sweat looked like. he knew sweat as any other man, whether it was a light perspiration to a heavy sweating during exertion. But why would he use the words "like drops of blood" as a simile as you say? Was it a reference to the color of the drops? Could Jesus have broken tiny capillaries on his forehead or other places on his face where the strain and stress show up - if so, He literally could have had a mixture of sweat and blood. Which describes agony more - literal drops of sweat or literal drops of blood within the sweat? Obviously they both do, nothwithstanding it was night, the sun was down, and it was spring in Israel. Low humidity, mild temperatures. Jesus did not sweat because of ambient temperature. No, he sweated because of the intensity of His prayer to the Father, blood or no blood. RAC |
