Subject: Questions I'm trying to answer |
Bible Note: Dear Brother Mark, I was not mocking you, my friend. The hidden message idea you related is word-for-word what I've found elsewhere. I don't know the original source. I can't track it back the 1,000 years that you suggest. However, whoever originated this idea did some creative translating. If God hid a message in the genealogy of Adam through Noah, why would the message stop at Noah? Why not go all the way through the genealogy of Christ? Here's the list again but, this time, from Strong's: Adam - Mankind (the roots are Flushed Red or Ruddy) #121 Seth - Put/Set/Lay #8352 Enos - Humanity (emphasizing his mortality) #583 Cainan - Fixed (as in a Nest) #7018 Mahalaleel - Praise of God #4111 Jared - Descend/Fall #3382 Enoch - Initiated/Taught #2585 Methuselah - Man of a Dart #4968 Lamech - Unknown (Strong says the root meaning is lost) #3929 Noah - Rest #5146 God speaks more plainly (and grammatically) than what we have here. I suspect the original idea has roots in wishful thinking rather than serious textual study. Irony is a powerful persuasive tool, extensively used by the prophets, apostles, and our Lord. Instead of becoming offended, Brother Mark, hang on to your Historico-Grammatical presuppositions. Be skeptical of anything arising from a competitive approaches... at least until you can be certain that the information is reliable. Speaking of corrective thinking: I'm more and more persuaded by your approach to dealing with Revelation. I am grateful for your patient instruction. In Him, Doc |
