Bible Question:
So, if I'm reading this correctly, (and I might not be :-P) Jesus was sent here (partially) to help guide men away from the sillyness of the laws that were in place at the time; to let them know that loving God with all of your heart mind and spirit was more important than the laws themselves? What does that mean in modern terms? Obviously wearing cloth made of two different threads is something we all do, and back then was considered a sin. Is part of the reason Jesus died for us to alleviate the punishments of eternal sin from those actions that would be considered a violation of any one of those laws? |
Bible Answer: Hebrews 10:1 says that the law was a shadow of the good things to come. Galatians 3:19 asks "why, then, the law? It was added to make transgressions manifest, until the offspring(Jesus) should arrive..."So the law served as a reminder that they needed a permanent deliverance from sin. they could not perfectly observe the law. the ransom provided that so when Christ came and gave his life they then were to exercise faith in his sacrifice. Chapters 3-5 of Galatians explains it in depth for Paul was speaking to the Galatian congregation in the first century after the death of Christ. Likewise today we exercise faith in the ransom by living in harmony with principles set out in God's word. 1 John 5:3 |
