Bible Question:
So, if I'm reading this correctly, (and I might not be :-P) Jesus was sent here (partially) to help guide men away from the sillyness of the laws that were in place at the time; to let them know that loving God with all of your heart mind and spirit was more important than the laws themselves? What does that mean in modern terms? Obviously wearing cloth made of two different threads is something we all do, and back then was considered a sin. Is part of the reason Jesus died for us to alleviate the punishments of eternal sin from those actions that would be considered a violation of any one of those laws? |
Bible Answer: The Laws are only silly to those that view them that way. To God and the Jews to whom the Law was given it was very important. Example cloth made from two different threads was to teach Israel spiritual purity. You should not be unequally yoked (believer with unbeliever). But it as also practical. In those days thread were made most of wool and linen/flax, mixing the two would result in a destroyed garment the first time it got wet. Without knowing the spiritual truth behind each law made many appear to be little more that needless rules. However they were designed to teach a spiritual truth. However many of the laws taught social justice and I as said in my previous post they were considered so excellent that they remain embedded in the law of many lands even today. |
