Bible Question: Why was God unhappy with Cains offering? |
Bible Answer: Cain did not submit to God's leadership. He wanted to come to God his way. We must come to God, God's way. God saw Cain's heart and was and is able to judge rightly something that you and I cannot do. Only God can judge a person's motives because He can see inside our minds. He knows what we are thinking all the time and why we do the things we do. He is the only one able to give a just judgement. We also see death of an animal. This shows the need for a blood sacrifice. That there is no forgiveness without blood. It shows the awfulness of sin. That Cain's sin was so hurtful to God that because he still wanted a relationship with man, and because of God's holiness for man to be cleansed there had to be a death because forgiveness is in the blood. A poor little lamb had to be sacrificed for sin. It is a picture of our Lord Jesus Christ who gave the perfect, supreme sacrifice. He is the lamb of God that takes away the sins of the world. We need to have a right heart attitude and accept this sacrifice by putting our faith and trust in the Lord Jesus Christ. Abel apparently understood and submitted to God whereas Cain did not and was in rebellion showed by his offering of vegetables. People today are much like this. We think we can come to God in any way we chose. We cannot. There is only one way to God. That is through his Son and His finished work on the cross. We are covered by His blood for the remission of our sins when we submit and bow the knee to Him as our Lord and Saviour. 1 John 3:12 not as Cain, who was of the evil one and slew his brother. And for what reason did he slay him? Because his deeds were evil, and his brother's were righteous. Jude 1:11 Woe to them! For they have gone the way of Cain, and for pay they have rushed headlong into the error of Balaam, and perished in the rebellion of Korah. Blessings, Val |
