Bible Question:
Hi, I am new to the forum. My family is in a church where there is an issue with the Pastor. It has been ongoing for about 6 months to a degree. Now we have been approached by two other pastors, both friends of our pastor, who say he is having an affair. They have confronted him with this, he has not denied it. We are in the process of setting a meeting with our pastor, to discuss it with him in detail. We desperately need some verses, some counsel. One of the two pastors wrote our pastor a letter, which he copied us on. In it, he stated that the pastor could be forgiven and restored, but never to a place of leadership. I have searched my concordance, Vines, and can't find anything to help us with this. Please, only Biblical responses. We love this man and his family, but love the Lord more, and seek His will in this. We would also ask that prayer warriors pray with us in this. On top of all of this, if we are without a pastor, we may loose our church building as we are in the middle of negotiations to take ownership of the building, but another group also seeks to take ownership and they will of course, use this info to hurt our position. We live in a village so small, this is all hurting our witness. Thanks for your prayerful responses. Have a great Lord's day. At His Feet |
Bible Answer: 1 Tim 3:2 states that the "overseer" or Pastor is to be above reproach. In the The Amplified version : "Now a bishop (superintendent, overseer) must give no grounds for accusation but must be above reproach, the husband of one wife, circumspect and temperate and self-controlled; [he must be] sensible and well behaved and dignified and lead an orderly (disciplined) life; [he must be] hospitable [showing love for and being a friend to the believers, especially strangers or foreigners, and be] a capable and qualified teacher," See also Titus 1:7. Does this Pastor fit this description? God knows what is best for him and for your church. God desires restoration - but I agree with what you have been told, not to the position of "overseer." You also have had some excellent counsel to love as Jesus did, ministering with the deisre to restore the fallen to a right relationship with the Lord - this is the most important thing to consider right now. I understand your hurt - praying with you and for you! Blessings! mommapbs PS: Nothing can hurt your witness more than to act in an un-Christlike manner to one another. They (unbelievers) will know that we are Christians because we love one another. Jesus said, "By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another." John 13:35 |
