Bible Question:
Hi, I am new to the forum. My family is in a church where there is an issue with the Pastor. It has been ongoing for about 6 months to a degree. Now we have been approached by two other pastors, both friends of our pastor, who say he is having an affair. They have confronted him with this, he has not denied it. We are in the process of setting a meeting with our pastor, to discuss it with him in detail. We desperately need some verses, some counsel. One of the two pastors wrote our pastor a letter, which he copied us on. In it, he stated that the pastor could be forgiven and restored, but never to a place of leadership. I have searched my concordance, Vines, and can't find anything to help us with this. Please, only Biblical responses. We love this man and his family, but love the Lord more, and seek His will in this. We would also ask that prayer warriors pray with us in this. On top of all of this, if we are without a pastor, we may loose our church building as we are in the middle of negotiations to take ownership of the building, but another group also seeks to take ownership and they will of course, use this info to hurt our position. We live in a village so small, this is all hurting our witness. Thanks for your prayerful responses. Have a great Lord's day. At His Feet |
Bible Answer: Hi, The main verses that i can think of are found in Matt 18: 15-17. Yet I would also like to say that the reason for doing this is for restoration not for discipline. It would be the best thing for everyone to have your pastor repent and be able to be brought back into the fold. In verse 17 it refers to treating them as heathens, now we have to remember how Jesus treated the heathens. He treated them with love in order to draw them to Him. That is what we are called to do with people who have left the faith or are unrepentant, we are to love them and minister to them to hopefully bring them back to God. I hope this brings some answers. God Bless You. Here I am Lord |
