Doc, "pulling my leg" We do have a similar term in Chinese, but is somewhat different in terms of both expression and meaning..."pulling one's hind leg" (meaning to find fault of someone). Literally, funny though it looks like that man has fore leg and hind leg like beasts :-) I believe, in fact, it refers to the movement/action of walking - while a step forward thus leaving the other leg at the back. Idioms are interesting :-) Shalom Azure |

Dear Alegrio, You say: "Satan or the devil wanted to tempt all people to be lazy to easy go lucky and to be selfish that is the only way man will destroy the earth and God's creation. without directly confronting God." Could you please provide scriptural support as to your above notion especially on Satan's motive : without directly confronting God? By the way, it was not Satan who introduced the tree of knowledge of good and evil. God specifically told Adam beforehand (Gen 2:8-9) and the couple knew that tree already (Gen 2:16-17, Gen 3:2-3). Thank you. Shalom Azure |

Dear Cheri, I have no intention to equate Osteens to the below descriptions. I just wanted to respond to what you said in the second paragraph in concern with deception and God's Godly purpose. Proverb 16:4 The LORD has made everything for its own purpose, even the wicked for the day of evil. quote ... the work of the devil coming as an angel of light to deceive....their sincerity did not absolve them of their pernicious errors. The fact was that they were serving the interests of the devil and not of Christ no matter how sincere they may or may not have been. This is a critical fact that bears reemphasizing. Sincerity is no substitute for truth. A man can be full of sincerity at the same time he is busy spreading the devil’s dangerous lies through the household of faith. Well-intentioned, but misled people too often overlook this fact and therefore refuse to judge the doctrine and practices of those men who claim to speak for Christ. This is precisely the attitude that Satan relies on to keep his cunning lies and false gospels undetected. His clever substitutes thrive in such an environment. This is why the apostle John commanded his hearers to: '…do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world.' (1John 4:1 NASV). Dan Norcini unquote Shalom Azure |

Dear Cheri, Yes cheri, on one hand (as per our human mind) it would be a better choice for those (unbelieve) to sit busy at "playing church" (as you term it). On the other hand, the danger lies behind it would be those that who sit so well and feeling good at church might not realize their own sin for they could have been decieved. They might have created a good self-feeling within their acitivities at church - I am no more a sinner. On the contrary, those (dealing drugs, robbing, etc.) who deemed to be so much inferior to the seemed to be holy congregation, I doubt they would regard themselves have anything in association with holiness or righteousness, etc. I believe the story depicted in Luke 7:36-50 in contrasting Simon, the Pharisee and the sinner woman has addressed my point. 955 | Okay to question faith and the Bible? | 2 Tim 3:16 | azurelaw | 200133
Dear parpar, Thanks for the quote. In return, may I echo with my favourite author C.S. Lewis' "The Screwtape Letters" "My dear Wormwood,...Your man has been accustomed, ever since he was a boy, to have a dozen imcompatible philosophies dancing about together inside his head. He doesn't think of doctrines as primarily 'true' or 'false', but as 'academic' or 'pratical', 'outworn' or 'contemporary', 'conventional' or 'ruthless'. Jargon, not argument, is your best ally in keeping him from the Church... The trouble about arguments is that it moves the whole struggle on the Enemy's own ground. He can argue too; whereas in really practical propaganda of the kind I am suggesting He has been shown for centuries to be greatly the inferior of Our Father Below. By the very act of arguing, you awake the patient's reason; and once it is awake, who can foresee the result? Even if a particular train of thought can be twisted so as to end in our favour, you will find that you have been strenghtening in your patient the fatal habit of attending to universal issues and withdrawing his attention from the stream of immediate sense expreiences. Your business is to fix his attention on the stream. Teach him to call it 'real life' and don't let him ask what he means by 'real'." - C.S. Lewis If it is His will, even the most rebellious man or the wisest skeptic on earth will finally kneel before His Throne for conversion and submission. Rom 9:11-18 Rom 11:33-35 Shalom Azure |

Dear parpar, Thank you for your response and providing scriptures in balancing the discussion. In regards with "free will", how would you consider or understand "slave" as described in Rom 6:16-18? You don't have to answer me. By the way, pardon me that I prefer to shy away from the discussion which has been proven to be highly controversial among those forefathers and yet unsolved; and has also been discussed a lot in the past long before I join the forum. My further input is just redundancy (Prov 17:28). I believe you should know where I stand from my posts. There are a number of good (even hot perhaps) posts in past discussion on the forum. Just do a word search with : free will, predestination, Calvinism, Arminianism, etc. for your own further reading. Shalom Azure |

958 | What do we have for fighting? | 2 Tim 4:7 | azurelaw | 188120
A short story to share written by an amateur writer, Mr. M.L. Au (a catholic), in a local newspaper. Here is my translation: ---- A conversation between a lioness and her cub ---- Little cub: Mom, why do we have such big feet? Lioness: They grow big and strong to help us run fast. Little cub: Why do we have those sharp claws? Lioness: They can help us to hunt much easier. Little cub: Why is our skin so thick? Lioness: It helps to protect us from severe injury while fighting, my dear. Little cub: Wow, how cool that God equipped us with those gifts! The lioness nodded. The little cub thought for a moment and asked again: "Mom, I don't understand. Since we have these remarkable gifts, what are we doing here in this zoo?" Lioness: "....." (silent) --------------------------------- Though the message has nothing with religious concern, still it triggers my thought that we, christians, might sometimes choose to reside comfortably in our own zoo. Matt 10:16 Behold, I send you out as sheep in the midst of wolves; so be shrewd as serpents and innocent as doves. Eph 6:13-17 Therefore, take up the full armor of God, so that you will be able to resist in the evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm. Stand firm therefore, HAVING GIRDED YOUR LOINS WITH TRUTH, and HAVING PUT ON THE BREASTPLATE OF RIGHTEOUSNESS, and having shod YOUR FEET WITH THE PREPARATION OF THE GOSPEL OF PEACE; in addition to all, taking up the shield of faith with which you will be able to extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. And take THE HELMET OF SALVATION, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. Acts 1:8 ....but you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth." Shalom Azure |
