901 | is it ok to lie in certain cases | Col 3:9 | azurelaw | 207914
Dear bowler, gotquestions.org provides the below article: Question: "Is it ever right to lie?" Answer: It is never right to lie. The ninth commandment prohibits bearing false witness (Exodus 20:16). Proverbs 6:16-19 lists “a lying tongue” and “a false witness who pours out lies” as two of the seven abominations to the Lord. Love “rejoices with the truth” (1 Corinthians 13:6). See also (Psalm 119:29, 163; 120:2; Proverbs 12:22; 13:5; Ephesians 4:25; and Colossians 3:9.) There are many examples of liars in Scripture, from Jacob’s deceit in Genesis 27 to the pretense of Ananias and Sapphira in Acts 5. Time after time, we see that falsehood leads to misery, loss, and judgment. Sometimes a question arises concerning lies that seem to have positive results. For example, the lie the Hebrew midwives tell Pharaoh seems to result in the Lord’s blessing (Exodus 1:15-21). However, it should be obvious that the Lord is blessing the midwives’ rescue of the children, rather than any falsehood they told. God in His mercy blessed them in spite of the lie, notbecause of it. Another example is Rahab’s lie in Joshua 2:5. God never condones her lie, but He does forgive it. Rahab’s life is spared in response to her faith, which she expresses in verses 9-11. God not only forgives Rahab’s lying, but also her idolatry and harlotry—another example of God’s mercy in action. Recommended Resource: Overcoming Sin and Temptation by John Owen. **** Shalom Azure |

Dear Looking, You say: Jesus did break ... the law by eating food that was for only the priests. No, Jesus did not break the law (Mat 12:5). Yes, the consecrated bread was for the priest alone but Jesus is the High Priest (see Hebrew ch 3-5), He is the Lord of Sabbath (Mat 12:8). Shalom Azure |

"Are you going to ignore what Jesus told the Pharisees? That they would of course break the law to save a life and that according to Jesus that was the right thing to do?" Oh, dear bowler, whether I agree to the above or not, it is not a graceful thing to put words into my mouth! Shalom Azure |

Dear Cheri, Is our telling the truth only limited to "turning in our brother/sister" when being questioned and threatened by the prosecutor? Shalom Azure |

Dear looking, I don't mean to be argumentative. Perhaps I might have misunderstood you. Could you please explain what do you mean by the below statement you made in post 207935? Did Jesus break the law? If He did, which law did you mean here in the context of your post? --- Jesus did break or allow the law to be broken. --- Thanks and Shalom Azure |

Sorry that I forgot to include this scripture: Mat 10:19-20 "But when they hand you over, do not worry about how or what you are to say; for it will be given you in that hour what you are to say. "For it is not you who speak, but it is the Spirit of your Father who speaks in you. Shalom Azure |

Dear Roots, 1 Cor 7:9 The question you answered was in 2005 and the poster is no longer active after posting 3 questions on that same day. However, I would like to give some feedback to your note that it might not be practical for a person who is still waiting for the right mate but is burning with physical desire. I think the below hints provided by John MacArthur are helpful to a bachelor christian who is facing such a difficulty: Number one would be channel your energy through physical work and spiritual service. Redirect yourself to good physical work and spiritual service. This gives your energy an outlet. Secondly, don't seek to be married, seek to love and let marriage come as a response. People who are always wanting to get married will marry the wrong person more often than not. But people who are seeking to find the fulfillment of love will marry the person they've fallen in love with. Don't seek to get married... Seek to be loved and to love, not to be married. Don't worry; marriage will take care of itself. Thirdly, let go of a sex-mad adulterous world. And what I mean by that is watch what you absorb of the system. Fourthly, program your mind with divine realities ... program your mind. It's amazing, but your behavior is a direct result of the programming of your mind with divine truth. Fifth, recognize that for now God has chosen for you to live without sex and recognize this, there's no temptation that has taken you but such is as common to man, God is faithful, will not allow you to be tempted...what? ... above that you're able but will with the temptation make ... what?...a way of escape that you may be able to bear it. Sixth, avoid potentially dangerous situations. That's like Joseph, he just ran. Seventh, thank and praise God for the state you're in and be content. You have to approach it from these standpoints. "How could God command you to marry and not provide a partner? But, listen to me, people, if you're not the right person, you'll never meet the right partner. That's the whole key. If you're not the right person, you'll never meet the right partner. So instead of looking for the right girl, start being the right man. And, girls, instead of looking for the right man, start being the right woman...and then the right man will recognize the right woman." Shalom Azure |

913 | Why not braided hair for women? | 1 Tim 2:9 | azurelaw | 215221
Dear humility, While I agree to the central idea you wanted to convey, I still find you have stretched a bit too far: "Paul was not against the plaiting of the hair like we do today..." I am sure Paul has no idea what the women and the world would be like today :-) "They would wear expensive, tight-fitted and skimpy clothing as well." Could you please provide scriptural reference for the above as I might have missed it? Of course God sees the heart and hidden part of a man, yet, a person's dress code denotes certain message he/she wants to express silently :-) Shalom Azure |

915 | Adam and Eve Perfect or Flawed | 1 Tim 2:11 | azurelaw | 208127
Dear Cheri, I am just on my way to post an addition note to you. Now here is what I've perceived based on the verses and the difference. What Eve said also demonstrated her lack of attentive or less serious to the Word and details. It was apparently that she viewed the tree of the knowledge of good and evil as one of those among Eden for she said "the tree WHICH IS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE GARDEN". She did not regard the consequence seriously by missing "surely". Isn't it a picture, a teaching for us to handle rightly and accurately God's Words so that we leave no chance for Satan's temptaion? See how so many heresies and false teachers flourished for the same reason? Shalom Azure |

916 | Adam and Eve Perfect or Flawed | 1 Tim 2:11 | azurelaw | 208129
Dear Cheri, When one lies, there must be a motive, be it bad or what men call "good". However, what I interpret from the conversation between Eve and the serpent, Eve was just expressing what she "knows". Shalom Azure |

Thank you for your kind words, brother John. Psalm 12:6 The words of the LORD are pure words; As silver tried in a furnace on the earth, refined seven times. Psalm 56:10 In God, whose word I praise, In the LORD, whose word I praise. Az |

919 | Adam and Eve Perfect or Flawed | 1 Tim 2:11 | azurelaw | 208143
Dear Steve, Hmmm...I understand your point. Thanks for that. Then I don't understand why it appears with the difference between the 2 passages recorded. If it were the case in the books of Gospel, slight difference can be understood because of different authors' purpose of emphasis. Since, Genesis is written by Moses not any other person, it should be much in harmony. In addition, why did Paul make such comment in reference to Eve in 1 Tim 2:11-14? Your further enlightenment is appreciated. Shalom Azure |

920 | Adam and Eve Perfect or Flawed | 1 Tim 2:11 | azurelaw | 208144
Dear Steve, Could it be communication barrier between Eve and Adam since God commanded to Adam directly at first. Nowhere it shows God talks to Eve the same command again. Shalom Azure |
