881 | Please answer this question. | 2 Kin 25:1 | Mommapbs | 28439
Just input King Nebuchadnezzer into a seach engine and you will find some excellent sites that give historical as well as biblical information about this King who was used by God! (And humbled by Him as well.) We can learn a lot from his life, especially what NOT to do! I thought the site at Daily Bible Study was good. |

882 | Are we impatient that wicked prosper? | Jer 12:1 | Mommapbs | 28237
Matthew 5:44"But I say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven; for He causes His sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have? Do not even the tax collectors do the same?" We will not be impatient that the wicked prosper if we keep eternity in mind! This should be a very sobering reality check for every Christian. What am I more concerned about: the wicked prospering NOW or their prospects for eternity? I don't want to make light of your question, for we all wrestle with unjustices. But God assures us that HE will exact vengence upon evildoers. "Never take your own revenge, beloved, but leave room for the wrath of God, for it is written, 'VENGEANCE IS MINE, I WILL REPAY,' says the Lord." Romans 12:19 Honestly, how do you feel about Osama Bin Laden? From his actions, we would call him wicked, and yet he is enormously wealthy or prosperous from a worldly perspective. Is he not your enemy as well as mine? Do you pray for him? I confess, I have not. |

883 | Is the drunkenness figurative? | Jer 13:13 | Mommapbs | 28236
I believe the reference to drunkenness in this passage is spiritual and therefore figurative. My immediate response to your question took me to passages in Revelation. Revelation 17:2 . . . the kings of the earth committed acts of immorality, and those who dwell on the earth were made drunk with the wine of her immorality. I feel Paul explains this quite well in Romans 1:18-32. Because of mankind's refusal of God, as a result of this choice, He allowed our foolish minds to be darkened. I believe the drunkenness Jeremiah is talking about is akin to a mind without God - limited, impaired, confused, rebellious, immoral, unable to make sound judgments or wise decisions, etc. . . Physical drunkenness sometimes leads to death; but death is always the result of spiritual drunkenness! There is no difference for Jews or Gentiles: those who refuse Jesus (the new wine from the True Vine!)" . . . will drink of the wine of God's fury, which has been poured full strength into the cup of his wrath. He will be tormented with burning sulfur in the presence of the holy angels and of the Lamb." Revelation 14:10 |

884 | how should christians view evolution | 1 Tim 6:3 | Mommapbs | 28214
Please read "Darwin's Black Box: The Biochemical Challenge to Evolution" by Michael J. Behe! Even a non-scientist can understand the brillant case Behe makes against the possibility of evolution! I gave my son a t-shirt for Christmas that reads: "Big Bang Theory. . .you've got to be kidding!" God. |

885 | Is God going somewhere? | Is 55:6 | Mommapbs | 28212
Hebrews 4:6-8 "Therefore, since it remains for some to enter it, and those who formerly had good news preached to them failed to enter because of disobedience, He again fixes a certain day, Today, saying through David after so long a time just as has been said before, TODAY IF YOU HEAR HIS VOICE, DO NOT HARDEN YOUR HEARTS.For if Joshua had given them rest, He would not have spoken of another day after that." See also Hebrews 3:7, Psalm 95:7,8; No one seeks God or longs for Him on their own. (Remember we are like sheep, gone astray, going our own way - not God's Way!) But we have within us, a God consciousness (see Romans 1), an ability to recognize and respond to God. God's desire is to restore our love relationship with Him so He initiates this as the Holy Spirit woos or draws us to Himself. This drawing is the opportunity we have to "seek the Lord, while He may be found." God also affords us a window of invitation to respond to Him, to "call upon Him while He is near." Today is the day of Salvation! We see that there is a TIME called TODAY. This time that God has given us to receive Christ is unique for each individual. God is not going anywhere, but we are. We are either moving toward or away from Him. This is why Scripture warns us to "harden not our hearts!" Hebrews 3:12-14 "See to it, brothers, that none of you has a sinful, unbelieving heart that turns away from the living God.But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called Today, so that none of you may be hardened by sin's deceitfulness. We have come to share in Christ if we hold firmly till the end the confidence we had at first." Hope this helps! |

886 | Did Israel dwell securely at that time? | Jer 23:6 | Mommapbs | 28204
If you look at the previous verse (5), "Behold, the days are coming," declares the LORD, "When I will raise up for David a righteous Branch; And He will reign as king and act wisely And do justice and righteousness in the land. . . it causes me to think that this is referring to the not only the birth or first coming of Christ,(I will raise up for David a righteous Branch) but His Second coming! This is when He indeed will come as THE King, to reign, act wisely, and do justice and righteousness in the land. Only then, will Judah be saved and Israel dwell in safety. Certainly history shows that this is not yet the case! "For I do not want you, brethren, to be uninformed of this mystery--so that you will not be wise in your own estimation--that a partial hardening has happened to Israel until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in; and so all Israel will be saved; just as it is written, "THE DELIVERER WILL COME FROM ZION, HE WILL REMOVE UNGODLINESS FROM JACOB." Romans 11:25,26. |

887 | True disagreement? | Eph 1:13 | Mommapbs | 28123
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ! Since I believe there is more agreement among us than disagreement, let's get this unanswered question off the list! We are unified in Christ . . . But to each one of us grace has been given as Christ apportioned it. This is why it says: "When he ascended on high, he led captives in his train and gave gifts to men." Ephesians 4:7,8 whether we choose to recognize them, use them or not - they are ours! Thanks be to God for His matchless gift in Christ Jesus, our salvation! Blessisngs to you all - Momma |

888 | Does God decide how long we live? | Matt 6:27 | Mommapbs | 28058
Matthew 6:27 "Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?" Jer. 1:5 "Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations." Jer. 29:11 "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." Having watched many children die from cancer, I can assure you that none of these little ones died in vain. God has used their brief life for His glory. There are no accidents, yet there are consequences. None are out of God's sight or control! Our future is Heaven - sometimes we get homesick - and you have an even greater reason! Ephesians 2:10, "For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do." After reading this verse, my son, while undergoing chemo at age 14, stated,"God has a plan for my life." When I asked him how he knew that he replied, "Because I'm still here; if your work for God is done, you should be happy to go home to Heaven!" (This was 7 years ago; he was miraculously healed! God does indeed have a purpose for his life, for mine and for yours - why? Because WE are still here!)Blessings to you and yours! |

890 | Parable fo the Good Samaritan - Evaluate | NT general Archive 1 | Mommapbs | 25540
The interpretation of the Parable you have presented is out of sync with Scripture. Jesus used this illustration to teach us that loving our neighbor emanates from a heart that loves God first! On one occasion an expert in the law stood up to test Jesus.” Teacher," he asked, "what must I do to inherit eternal life?” “What is written in the Law?" he replied. "How do you read it?" He answered: "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind; and, Love your neighbor as yourself. You have answered correctly, Jesus replied. "Do this and you will live." But he wanted to justify himself, so he asked Jesus, "And who is my neighbor?" Luke 10:25-29 How do we love God? By obeying His commands I John 5:3 What are His commands? And this is his command: to believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ, and to love one another as he commanded us. Those who obey his commands live in him, and he in them. And this is how we know that he lives in us: We know it by the Spirit he gave us. I John 3:23-4 What pleases God? Our faith - “Without faith it is impossible to please God” Hebrews 11:6 “Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved." Acts 4:12 Jesus declared, “I am the Way the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”.” John 14:6 No one can “achieve salvation!” “But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior.” (Titus 3:4-6) “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith--and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God -- not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” Ephesians 2:8-10 The only thing that distinguishes a believer from a non-believer is the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit of Christ. God alone can see this! The work of the Holy Spirit is to conform us to the image of Christ, so that our attitudes and actions will reflect Him. Many believers hinder His work by not yielding their will to Him! The point is this, our first response to God is one of faith – do we believe what God says? All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. The penalty for sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. See Romans 3:23, 6:23 God will judge sin; do we recognize our need to be saved from His wrath? We have a choice to exercise faith in Christ’s finished work on the cross, He paid the penalty for our sins (death) or choose to believe in our selves to meet God's Holy demand for righteousness? God’s righteousness is either out of reach, therefore we need a Savior, or it is attainable, and we can achieve eternal salvation on our own. God’s Word is very clear; you can choose to believe it or ignore it. “Anyone who believes in the Son of God has this testimony in his heart. Anyone who does not believe God has made him out to be a liar, because he has not believed the testimony God has given about his Son. And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life. I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life. I John 5:10-13 There are no denominational or religious monikers over the gates of Heaven. Salvation is a free gift and available to everyone – Muslims, Buddhists, Catholics, Baptists, Wiccans – but there is only ONE WAY, Jesus! |

891 | how to quiet the world while you fast? | Neh 1:4 | Mommapbs | 25326
I'm sure that there are some excellent texts on fasting for further insight into the mechanism of fasting. The intent of the heart during the fast is what counts, not staying on your knees! A fast brings you into an overwhelming awareness of God; who He is and your relationship with Him. As you go about your daily activities, there will be reminders during your fast to draw close to God. Praise (prays!) Him and do take time to spend in His Word. You write: "I am just seeking clarity in my life." May I encourage you to seek God first? Ask Him to reveal HIS plans for you - only then will everything be clear! Blessings to you during this awesome time with God! |

892 | can you speak to Joshua 3:5 specifically | Joshua | Mommapbs | 25252
According to this verse, God was going to show up - He was going to do wonders among them! No one could come into the presence of God unless they were purified. The Jews had to continually undergo purifying rituals. (Do a search on the word purify!) Compare the purification of the Israelites with that of Jesus, "who gave Himself for us to redeem us from every lawless deed, and to purify for Himself a people for His own possession, zealous for good deeds." Titus 2:14 Thankfully, Jesus is OUR purification, once and for all! Our sins are forgiven and we are declared righteous, the necessary condition for us to come before Holy God! |

893 | What are the steps to sanctification | Josh 3:5 | Mommapbs | 25243
The sanctification that Joshua commands refers to purification rituals the Israelites observed before coming into the presence of God. They were about to witness a manifestation of God's presence among them when they crossed the Jordan River on dry ground. Obviously, they took to heart God's command to "be holy, because I am holy!" It gives us pause to consider how we approach God. Do we prepare our hearts, through confession and repentance to become cleansed vessels, suitable for His filling? These are the "steps to sanctification." However . . . Sanctification is a work of the Holy Spirit,(1 Peter 1:2) but we must be willing to cooperate with the process! Check out the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22) as a self-test. Is there evidence of His sanctifying work in your life? As we grow in the knowledge of Jesus, we will begin to reflect more and more of His character in our lives. This is the result of His Spirit at work in us, but we must CHOOSE to let Him be in control! 1 Pet 2:9 But you are A CHOSEN RACE, A royal PRIESTHOOD, A HOLY NATION, A PEOPLE FOR God's OWN POSSESSION, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; |

894 | What do you believe that this refers to | Luke 21:24 | Mommapbs | 25240
Rom 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. Rom 9:25 As He says also in Hosea, "I WILL CALL THOSE WHO WERE NOT MY PEOPLE, 'MY PEOPLE,' AND HER WHO WAS NOT BELOVED, 'BELOVED.'" Rom 9:26 "AND IT SHALL BE THAT IN THE PLACE WHERE IT WAS SAID TO THEM, 'YOU ARE NOT MY PEOPLE,' THERE THEY SHALL BE CALLED SONS OF THE LIVING GOD." Rom 9:27 Isaiah cries out concerning Israel, "THOUGH THE NUMBER OF THE SONS OF ISRAEL BE LIKE THE SAND OF THE SEA, IT IS THE REMNANT THAT WILL BE SAVED; Rom 9:28 FOR THE LORD WILL EXECUTE HIS WORD ON THE EARTH, THOROUGHLY AND QUICKLY." Take a few minutes to read Romans 9-11. The passage you are asking about refers to Jesus' discussion about the "end of the age." We have seen the national of Israel destroyed (an re-established in 1948, a fulfillment of prophecy!)and Jerusalem has been trodden by the Gentiles (a Gentile is a non-Jew)from the Romans to the Palestinains! We are living in the Age of Grace, where everyone has an opportunity to come to a knowledge of Jesus as their Savior. This is commonly called the "times of the Gentiles" when God draws all people, not just His chosen people - Israel. The "times of the Gentiles" will conclude with the Second Coming of the Lord. As you read through Luke 21 et al, we can understand through history as well as current events that the "time of the Gentiles" is perhaps very quickly drawing to a close! Maranantha! |

895 | What type of death is the 2nd death? | Rev 21:8 | Mommapbs | 24998
Toto: Sorry to jump is so late, but I just went to a class today where part of this was discussed! As others have written, the 2nd death is the death of the soul, the part of man that has the potential to be in a love relationship with God. (Lost in Eden) Without the regeneration of the Holy Spirit, upon physical death, man's soul passes into eternity apart from God. Until the white throne judgement, these lost souls wait in the side of Hades or Sheol called "torments." (See the story of Lazarus and the rich man in Luke 16.) If anyone's name was not found in the Lamb's Book (Rev. 21:27)of Life, they were thrown into the Lake of Fire, (and death and Hades were also thrown in) this is the second death - God's final judgement on sin resulting in eternal separation from God. (see Rev. 20) Think of a "black hole" from which nothing can escape. Utter darkness awaits those who reject the salvation God offers in Christ. Too often, we don't comprehend the horrific fate that awaits those who are "lost." I pray that God would raise our level of concern for those who don't know Jesus. We have one life, this side of eternity, to choose where we will spend it when we die! |

896 | Role of fasting in a Christian's walk? | Neh 1:4 | Mommapbs | 24888
Hi Nolan: I have fasted only a couple of times - it was for the specific purpose of focusing upon the Lord in my distress. To me, a fast is a way to concentrate solely upon the Lord's sufficiency; it heightens my awareness of my absolute need of Him. I personally feel that it is a private matter between the believer and the Lord. (Mt.6:16-18) I looked at scriptures on fasting using the search function and most fasting seems to be a response of a humble and repentant heart. In instances where I have chosen to fast, there was a HUGE degree of grief associated with it - mourning for loss, weeping over sin that separates, etc. In one instance, God honored my request, but that was not the most siginificant thing about the experience of the fast. He met me in the pit of despair and raised my head above the level of my tears; showered me with His tender love and mercy. God has been so faithful to "lift me up!" The church I attend called upon the people to fast for a specific request before the Lord. So, people fasted and prayed, and God said, "No." I suspect that many became disillusioned and disappointed. I believe that without Godly wisdom and instruction, a fast should never called for as otherwize it could be seen as a "mantra" or a talisman to "get our own way." (I am not suggesting that this would ever be your interpretation!) I am glad that you asked the question for it will be interesting to read how others approach this subject. |

897 | What should I do with my in-laws? | Matt 5:44 | Mommapbs | 24024
Best place to get answers is God's Word. Jesus said in Matthew 5:44, "But I say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you," I know this sounds simplistic considering the amount of "stuff" you have to deal with in these dysfunctional relationships but I can assure you, prayer works. You can not change another person's feelings or behaviors, but you can change the way that you respond t o them! From reading your family history, there is a lot of forgiveness that needs to be extended. Begin in your own heart. God commands us to love one another (not the things they do to us, etc), to forgive one another (even if they don't ask for it!) and pray for one another! You can't stay angry or mad at someone you bring before the Throne of Grace. Prayer will change you! I know, I speak from experience. It was VERY hard to confess my hatred and refusal to forgive those who didn't like me either, but the only person my anger was hurting was me. I was become more critical and bitter, certainly not a reflection of Jesus! Trusting in Him to work out the details, I got rid of those things and guess what happened? I was able to love them with a supernatural kind of love, forgiving them for things they didn't even know were hurting me, and I was able to behave and respond to them, inspite of their treatment of me, in a Christlike manner. Look again at what you have asked, and the details you have given. SOme serious healing is needed. Ask for yourself first. "Love the Lord your God. . . . and others as you love yourself." Hope this helps! Mommapbs
898 | How can we be sure of eternal salvation? | Phil 1:6 | Mommapbs | 24004
Check out the notes on 1 John 5:13. This is the first verse that came to my mind after reading your question. BTW, it it the Spirit that draws, convicts and assures - not you! 899 | what did Jesus promise | Matthew | Mommapbs | 24003
Matthew 5:1-7 et al Jesus said, "Blessed" are those who mourn,"(we mourn losses, the most significant loss we are to mourn is our relationship with God). How can this be a blessed or happy experience? It seems confusing until we add the promise: "for they WILL be comforted." Jesus also said "Blessed (Happy) are those who hunger and thirst after righteousness for they WILL be satisfied. Jesus is the Bread of Life and He offers us the Water of Life - these alone will satisfy our needs. So when we seek Jesus, we can be assured that all our needs will be satisfied. Refer also to Matthew 6:33. I believe that Jesus made these statements as part of His message of the Good News of the Kingdom - the promise of restoration which is coming to those who believe. I also believe that the Church has lost focus on this aspect of Jesus teaching - who wouldn't long for the day when we will be free from sin and it's ruin? Who wouldn't long for the day when we will enjoy God personal presence and all that He promises in His Word (including the Beatitudes). Some will argue that we can enjoy comfort and satisfaction here and now, but I believe this is more consistent with the promise of Heaven. Jesus said, "In this world you will have trouble, but be of good cheer for I have over come the world." "I go to prepare a place for you so that where I am you may be also." ! So how are we "blessed?" How are we to be "happy?" I believe our blessing is found in the confident expectation (and anticipation) that Jesus is coming again, and He is bringing His reward with Him for those who belong to Him! Happiness depends upon happenings, and Heaven will happen - it is a sure thing! Hope this encourages you today in whatever "grief" you are experiencing. |

900 | Operate on faith or endure? | Heb 11:1 | Mommapbs | 23848
Faith always has an object. Jesus is the object of our faith. We believe God because of WHO HE IS; we are confident that He will do as He promises. But do we leap off a bridge because He says in Jude 1:24 that "He will keep us from falling?" Hardly! We must be very careful to not abuse God's Word! God's plans for our lives do not come in a neatly wrapped box, ready for us to tear into and enjoy. Instead, His plan is most often hidden, waiting to be discovered! There is great joy in seeking and finding the "surprises" of God! In order to help you sort out your situation may I suggest the following: place your wants and God's will in separate categories until you are sure that they are aligned. Do not not trust your "feelings." Faith is not about feelings, but it is being confident about WHO and what we cannot see. You believe that your calling is to help others. You want to quit your job. Where does God's will figure into these statements? If God has indeed called you to serve others, are you sure that it is specifically "personal training?" If it is, then God will give others for you to serve. But, before you "leap" I would encourage you to spend much time in prayer and in searching God's Word for direction. He will be faithful to answer you when you call upon Him! Sometimes He says, "Yes;" sometimes He says, "No;" and other times He says, "Wait a while." After this, please seek the counsel of a mature believer. God's plan will be clear when what He says by His Spirit through His Word, through prayer, through experiences He gives you, and through other believers is in agreement. You have faith in Jesus. This faith enables you to endure the period you are now in! I call this "God's waiting room!" God's Word tells us to wait patiently for Him! If your hope is in Jesus - He knows what you need and will provide, but it will be in His timing. Don't rush God; let Him make the path straight before you! Sometimes, He has to get out heavy equipment to move some roadblocks - but it's worth the wait! |
