842 | why is masterbation a sin. | Bible general Archive 1 | prayon | 3352
"Victor" - "Charlene" asked a similar question on 4/3. I suggest reading the answer from "Ray". I think he looks at it in different way than the other answers you have received. I suggest taking it to God in prayer and go with what you believe He is telling you. |

844 | Did Jesus eat unclean foods? | 1 Corinthians | prayon | 3256
To my knowledge no he did not eat "unclean" foods. Jesus was a Jew and therefore followed the Jewish laws set down by God in the Old Testament. If He would of not followed the Jewish customs and laws he would not of been able to have the impact that He had. I am not sure in where you are referring to in Mark. If you are referring to the dream in which Paul had that was after Jesus assecended in to heaven. Hope I helped. God Bless. |

847 | Was Adam a White Man | Gen 1:26 | prayon | 2780
The only thing that the bible said about Adam was that he was made in God's image. I am not able to find where in the bible it says who even named Adam. In the universal subject guide in my Strongs Concordance it states that Adam means "red earth".
848 | Why not Jesus' words in Red? | Bible general Archive 1 | prayon | 2706
I can give you 3 reasons why I like all black. 1) When your eyes are not that great, like mine, it is a lot harder to read the red than the black 2) Highliters don't work as well over red 3) I make a lot of notes in the margins, between lines, ect. in my bible. The really important notes I write in red because I will be able to notice them faster. |

849 | Believing in the Bible and E.T.'s | Eph 2:2 | prayon | 2656
God is so awesome. I read or learn something and the next day there is a question about it posted. The following comes from "The End Time Occult Invasion: Entertaining Spirits Unaware", a book that exposes many of the subtle deceptions of the evil one and provides tools to effectively combat the encroachment of the New Age and Occult into our lives and home. Reports of visitors from other worlds are quite common in our society today. Reports have come from rural areas to large cities. Although credibility is questionable in some cases more than 1 astronaut has reported seeing alien craft while in space. Entire city populations have witnessed UFO events that could not be explained. It is hard not to believe in something that many, many people have been an eye witness to. Although I am unaware of any scriptures pertaining to E.T.'s and UFO's scripture does remind us that the devil IS the prince of the power of the air (Eph 2:2) and god of this world (2Cor 4:4). Remember, too, that there are instances throughout scripture that angels have appeared and operated in the physical realm. It is also interesting to note that radars have never detected any UFO's coming INTO our atmosphere although they have been tracked many times while here. When the authors of this book examined UFO and alien phenomenon from a biblical and New Age point of view there were striking parallels. First if you want to read any books on aliens you must go to the occult section of the library. This shows that aliens are closely linked with the occult. Most New Agers believe that aliens have chosen to enlighten them to communicate with them due to their spiritual "enlightenment. The out growth of the UFO phenomomen doctrinally lines up with the world of the occult - not with God's word. If for no other reason, this is a good reason to believe that aliens are nothing more than demons in disguise weaving a web to attract millions today. Their is also, according to the authors Eric Barger and David Benoit, indeed reason to believe that UFO's originate from another dimension than from another planet. In synopsis I believe that it is not against the bible to believe in aliens. We must remember that Satan will and does use many means to deceive his prey. He is the father of lies and illusion. I hope this helps some. |

850 | Why was Christ baptized? | NT general Archive 1 | prayon | 2586
There are few reasons why Jesus was baptized. 1) It was His first identification with us as sinners, the penitent people of God, not with the critical Pharisees who were only watching. 2) It marked the beginning of his ministry, leaving His private life behind. 3)It was His annointing for service. In the OT days the kings, prophets, ect. were always annointed with oil before starting whatever it was God had for them to do. It was a symbol that the Holy Spirit was going to be given to them in special measures for their work. Christ's baptism was also the first time that God publicly acknowledged His Son. It was after this event that all the healing, ect. began to take place. 4) It was a symbolism of death - the first thing that pointed to His death on the cross. 5) He was personally confessing sin on behalf of the nation as Ezra, Moses, Nehemiah and Daniel had done before. 6) He was showing respect for what John was doing. Hope this helps. In Christ's Love, prayon |

851 | What unmarried sexual acts are sinful? | Bible general Archive 1 | prayon | 2583
I try to impress upon all children I talk to as well as adults when the situation fits is this: If you have the SLIGHTEST hesitancy in doing anything (as you obviously have by asking the question) - DON'T!!! It is almost always the Holy Spirit telling you not to. |

852 | Elaborate, please? | Jer 6:16 | prayon | 2345
Dear Charis, I believe that it is the Isrealites that refuse to walk in the path. At this time the Isrealites had forgotten God and had "stumbled in their ways in the ancient roads" (Jer 18:15). Verse 17 says that He has sent sentinels (the prophets) to warn us. Today He continues to send us messengers to warn us. Many today are not listening either. It reminds us of the fact that we MUST walk in the narrow path of God's word. In Christ, prayon |

853 | what does 1 Peter 3:3 mean? | 1 Pet 3:3 | prayon | 2340
When you consider verse 4 with verse 3 it is saying that you should not try to draw people to you with lots of jewelry, fancy hair styles, or fine and/or extravagant clothes. Instead let people be drawn to you by by what is important to God - your meek, gentle, humble spirit and loving nature. There is nothing wrong in wearing jewelry as long as you wear it so as not to draw attention to yourself because of the jewelry. It along with all other outward appearence items should be worn humbly, modestly and tastefully.
854 | what color will we all be heaven | 1 Cor 15:51 | prayon | 2325
1Cor 15:51-53 says that at the time of the rapture our earthly bodies will be changes to immortal bodies. It is also the general concensus from questions asked in the past (search: heaven) that we will be able to recognize our loved ones. I believe that we will all remain the color/race we are now but that the sin of predjudice will be gone and that people will not look at the color of your skin but the heart that lays beneath.
855 | Is it a sin to committ suicide? | Bible general Archive 1 | prayon | 2322
Although I have no scripture backing on this (and I would love to know some scriptures if any one can supply them) I do not believe that it is a sin to commit suicide. I look at it this way; The majority of people who commit suicide do it because they are depressed. Depression whether, chronic or acute, is a disease. This disease has complications just as diabetes, lung cancer or any other disease does. One of the complications is suicide. I do not believe that anyone who succombs to depression and commits suicide would be condemned anymore than someone who lost a leg with diabetes or someone who lost a lung bcause of cancer.
856 | Explain Luke 23:31 | Luke 23:31 | prayon | 2248
I am led to understand that this is in relation to a proverb. Green wood does not normally burn, nor are innocent men executed. But if these things do happen now what will happen in the future? Another interpretation is if the innocent Jesus (green wood) suffered at the hands of the Romans what would happen to the guilty Jews (dry wood)? Hope this helps some. |

857 | Can man refuse God's invitation? | Luke 14:16 | prayon | 2239
You are right. The parable refers to God offering His kingdom and the gift of salvation to the Jewish people 2000 years ago. The Jewish people refused not believing that Christ was the true Messiah. This refussal is the gift of God called free will. In Genesis 2:15-16 it tells us that God gave Adam the responsibility of caring for the Garden of Eden and told him not to eat of the fruit rather than physically preventing him from doing so. In other words God gave Adam the choice of eating the fruit or not eating the fruit. Throughout the bible are countless stories when man went against God's wishes and chose to do what God commanded them not to do. The Luke parable is just another example of man not choosing God's way. God's call is irresistable. If it were not there would be no evil in the world. Man would not be able to refuse God if His call was indeed irresistable. (When the Jewish people refused the invitation God then extended that invitation to the Gentiles). |

858 | Woe to us? | Matt 23:13 | prayon | 2205
No and very much so. The 7 Woes (actually 8 as you stated) are and admonition to Christian leaders of 2000 years ago. However you can definitly apply it today and learn from them. I will take them one by one and explain. Woe 1) "You shut the kingdom of heaven in mens faces." How many dirty, smelly, unkept or drunk persons enter into the church who are turned away from the church or the fellowship of the church? v. 13-14 Woe 2)(this is considered by many to be a woe) "They devour widows' houses and for a show make lengthy prayers." the needy are still being oppressed in todays society. Mark 12:40 and Luke 20:47 Woe 3) "You travel over land and sea to win a single convert,..." Some converts are taught to keep their focus on the rules and works but miss God and the idea of grace altogether. This makes them as legalistic as those who taught them. Also many of the leaders of that day sought out new converts more to gain merit than to lead those to Christ. v.15 Woe 4) to the blind guides. "You say, if anyone swears by the temple, it means nothing......" The leaders of those days encouraged lieing and taught them that an oath was more binding than your word. Blind guides place their focus on the wrong things. v. 15-22. Woe 5) "You give a tenth of your spices... but you neglect the more important matters of the law - justice, mercy and faithfulness." The Pharisees would strain out the a small sin such as not tithing the right amount but would then wallow the camel (gross ethical sins, lack of mercy, etc.) How many do you know who focus on the trivial things but ignore the important matters? v. 23-24 Woe 6) You clean the outside of the cup but on the inside they are full of greed and self indulgence." Cleansing the outside of the cup refers to traditional ritual purification. They made these rituals conspicuous. These people appear religious on the outside but inside the focus is on purely self. v. 25-26 Woe 7) "You are like white washed tombs"...on the outside people can appear to be righteous but on the inside they are vindictive, unforgiving, selfish, and mean spirited. v. 27-28 Woe 8) "You build tombs for the prophets......." The Pharisees made a great show of honoring the prophets their ancestors murdered, swearing they would of never done it but they were when they were while the were stoning and putting to death those who preached the gospel of Jesus Christ. These people see what one person does and say they would never do it but they end up doing the same thing. v 29-32 (all verses taken from the New International Version.) All of the things that Jesus admonished them about are quite alive in our churches today. I think that there is definitly something to learn here and they can be applied to our lives today. Jesus gives us here examples of the way Satan can sneak up and devour us without us knowing it. What are our true motives today for the things we do? |

859 | Pure joy in Heaven? | Rev 7:9 | prayon | 2176
Dear JVH0212: I apologise, I should of given a better reference. In your question of Feb 27th you asked the question about recognizing loved ones in heaven. It was the general concensus that according to 1Cor. 15:51-53 that we will recognize our loved ones in heaven. Considering this to be accurate I again pose the same question. Thanks |

860 | what is the best inter. of the bible | Bible general Archive 1 | prayon | 2168
I have tried all different types of bibles in my studies. I, too, have found the best to be the New International Version or the New Revised Standard Version. I would also like to recommend the Life Application Bible. It can be found in either version as well as King James. The charts and diagrams, maps, individual profiles, cross references, time lines, book introductions, and cross references are all extremely helpful. It also has many, many footnotes that explains the verse as well as how to apply it to your life. Good studying.
