NASB | Luke 23:31 "For if they do these things when the tree is green, what will happen when it is dry?" |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | Luke 23:31 "For if they do these things when the tree is green, what will happen when it is dry?" |
Bible Question: Please submit your explanation and interpretation of these words of Christ spoken to the weeping women as He carried His cross to Clavary. |
Bible Answer: I am led to understand that this is in relation to a proverb. Green wood does not normally burn, nor are innocent men executed. But if these things do happen now what will happen in the future? Another interpretation is if the innocent Jesus (green wood) suffered at the hands of the Romans what would happen to the guilty Jews (dry wood)? Hope this helps some. |
