81 | Where do they go | Luke 23:46 | mbooker | 66037
Thanks so much for your response Brother Tim!! You were clear and I was able to follow you. The reason your statement prompted me to ask my question was because it (your statement) sounded similiar to what a Jehovah's Witness said to me once. She said that the dead are asleep and I could not reconcile that with Luke 16:20-31. I understand what you are saying. The wicked dead go to Sheol/Hades to await judgement. Now, my question is :) Are those who are presently in the punishment side of Sheol/Hades 1. 'in torments' (v23) and 2. 'tormented in this flame' (v24) as the rich man was? That's what I am trying to understand. If the wicked dead are in a peaceful sleep or are they in torment in Sheol/Hades. thanks again for your time Meredith |

82 | Where do they go | Luke 23:46 | mbooker | 66030
Good morning Brother Tim I read where you said 'Hell, as we commonly think of it, is empty right now except for certain fallen angels'. I thought that the lost went to 'Hell, as we commonly think of it' :) when they died. I drew this conclusion from: And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate, full of sores, And desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man's table: moreover the dogs came and licked his sores. And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried; And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame. But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented. And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence. Then he said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him to my father's house: For I have five brethren; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torment. Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them. And he said, Nay, father Abraham: but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent. And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead. Luke 16:20-31 I do understand that Jesus taught in parables. If unbelievers don't go to ''Hell, as we commonly think of it' :) when they die, where do they go? It's nice to be able to dialouge with you again... :) Meredith |

83 | Which teaching | Matt 14:29 | mbooker | 66028
Good Morning Pastor Glenn When you pointed out the fact that Peter took his eyes off Jesus I thought of this passage of scripture: My son, attend to my words; incline your ear unto my sayings. Let them not depart from your eyes; keep them in the midst of your heart. For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh. Keep your heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life. Put away from you a froward mouth, and perverse lips put far from you. Let your eyes look right on, and let your eyelids look straight before you. Ponder the path of your feet, and let all your ways be established. Turn not to the right hand nor to the left: remove your foot from evil. Prov 4:20-27 A heart of unbelief is referred to as evil in Heb 3:12. What I get out of this is: As long as I attend to God's Word and incline my ear to his sayings, faith will come (faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God. Rom 10:17). I also see that while 'in the boat', it may be easier to trust and stay focused on the Word (Jesus), but once I step in the mist of the ‘boisterous wind’, I REALLY need to be steadfast in attending to, inclining my ear to and looking right on at the Word (Jesus), so that I won’t be ‘O thou of little faith’ but will be more like the woman of Canaan who had great faith: And, behold, a woman of Canaan came out of the same coasts, and cried unto him, saying, Have mercy on me, O Lord, thou son of David; my daughter is grievously vexed with a devil. But he answered her not a word. And his disciples came and besought him, saying, Send her away; for she crieth after us. But he answered and said, I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel. Then came she and worshipped him, saying, Lord, help me. But he answered and said, It is not meet to take the children's bread, and to cast it to dogs. And she said, Truth, Lord: yet the dogs eat of the crumbs which fall from their masters' table. Then Jesus answered and said unto her, O woman, great is thy faith: be it unto thee even as thou wilt. And her daughter was made whole from that very hour. Matt 15: 22-28 Meredith |

84 | Which teaching | Matt 14:29 | mbooker | 65857
The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? I confess that I was tickled at your warning: 'Enter this thread at your own risk' and I chose not to resist the urge pull out the above from my arsenal :). Thanks for answering my question. It appears to me that the reasons Peter began to sank were because 1. he became afraid 2. he was of little faith and 3. he doubted Do you see anything else or something different? Meredith |

87 | How do we deal with PRODIGALS? | 1 Corinthians | mbooker | 65728
… the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us. Romans 5:5 Love never fails... 1 Corinthians 13:8 Show forth the love of God to your prodigal Love endures long and is patient and kind; … it takes no account of the evil done to it [it pays no attention to a suffered wrong]… Love bears up under anything and everything that comes, is ever ready to believe the best of every person, its hopes are fadeless under all circumstances, and it endures everything [without weakening]. 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 Be patient toward your prodigal Be kind toward your prodigal Do not take account of the evil done by your prodigal Bear up under whatever your prodigal may do Be ready to believe the best of your prodigal Continue to hope against the odds that your prodigal will come home … the goodness of God leads you to repentance Romans 2:4 Show forth the goodness of God to your prodigal For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day. 2 Timothy 2:12 Commit your prodigal to the Lord and believe that He is able to keep them |

88 | Resume the faith , what is it ? | Romans | mbooker | 65357
Romans 10:17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. KJV Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word of Christ. NIV So faith comes by hearing [what is told], and what is heard comes by the preaching [of the message that came from the lips] of Christ (the Messiah Himself). Amp Yet faith comes from listening to this message of good news--the Good News about Christ. NLT |

89 | Can We Put God in the Dock? | Bible general Archive 1 | mbooker | 65334
I will worship toward thy holy temple, and praise thy name for thy lovingkindness and for thy truth: for thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name. Ps 138:2 God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good? Num 23:19 In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began; Titus 1:2 Remember this, and shew yourselves men: bring it again to mind, O ye transgressors. Remember the former things of old: for I am God, and there is none else; I am God, and there is none like me, Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure: Calling a ravenous bird from the east, the man that executeth my counsel from a far country: yea, I have spoken it, I will also bring it to pass; I have purposed it, I will also do it. Is 46:8-11 From my current understanding, I would not say God is obligated to man. But I will say that God is obligated to his Word. An encounter that Moses had with God also leads me to believe that God is obligated to his Word. And the LORD said unto Moses, Go, get thee down; for thy people, which thou broughtest out of the land of Egypt, have corrupted themselves: They have turned aside quickly out of the way which I commanded them: they have made them a molten calf, and have worshipped it, and have sacrificed thereunto, and said, These be thy gods, O Israel, which have brought thee up out of the land of Egypt. And the LORD said unto Moses, I have seen this people, and, behold, it is a stiffnecked people: Now therefore let me alone, that my wrath may wax hot against them, and that I may consume them: and I will make of thee a great nation. And Moses besought the LORD his God, and said, LORD, why doth thy wrath wax hot against thy people, which thou hast brought forth out of the land of Egypt with great power, and with a mighty hand? Wherefore should the Egyptians speak, and say, For mischief did he bring them out, to slay them in the mountains, and to consume them from the face of the earth? Turn from thy fierce wrath, and repent of this evil against thy people. Remember Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, thy servants, to whom thou swarest by thine own self, and saidst unto them, I will multiply your seed as the stars of heaven, and all this land that I have spoken of will I give unto your seed, and they shall inherit it for ever. And the LORD repented of the evil which he thought to do unto his people. Ex 32:7-14 Wherefore should the Egyptians speak, and say, For mischief did he bring them out, to slay them in the mountains, and to consume them from the face of the earth? Turn from thy fierce wrath, and repent of this evil against thy people. v12 Here, it appears as if Moses is questioning God, then telling God what to do but… Remember Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, thy servants, to whom thou swarest by thine own self, and saidst unto them, I will multiply your seed as the stars of heaven, and all this land that I have spoken of will I give unto your seed, and they shall inherit it for ever. v13 Here, we see the promise that God had spoken to Abraham, Isaac, and Israel. Since God said ‘I have spoken it, I will also bring it to pass; I have purposed it, I will also do it’, I am lead to believe that God was not obligated to Moses but he was obligated to his spoken word. I do realize that saying ‘God is obligated…’ can and does sound quite pompous to some, so I will say it this way: This is the confidence that I have in Him: God, who cannot lie, will do what He says and will bring to pass what He purposes. |

94 | How would this apply to times of slavery | 1 Cor 7:21 | mbooker | 64524
v 21 seems to dispute the notion that slaves (or at the VERY least slaves who became believers) should remain slaves if the opportunity for freedom showed itself. Are you a slave? Don't let that worry you--but if you get a chance to be free, take it. NLT Were you a slave when you were called? Do not let that trouble you. But if you are able to gain your freedom, avail yourself of the opportunity. Amp |

95 | Why should we obey God? | Psalm | mbooker | 64171
Good morning again :) Another scripture that came to mind: No one who abides in Him (who lives and remains in communion with and in obedience to Him--deliberately, knowingly, and habitually) commits (practices) sin. No one who [habitually] sins has either seen or known Him (recognized, perceived, or understood Him, or has had an experiential acquaintance with Him). Boys (lads), let no one deceive and lead you astray. He who practices righteousness [who is upright, conforming to the divine will in purpose, thought, and action, living a consistently conscientious life] is righteous, even as He is righteous. (But) he who commits sin (who practices evildoing) is of the devil (takes his character from the evil one), for the devil has sinned (violated the divine law) from the beginning. The reason the Son of God was made manifest (visible) was to undo (destroy, loosen, and dissolve) the works the devil [has done]. No one born (begotten) of God (deliberately, knowingly, and habitually) practices sin, for God's nature abides in him (His principle of life, the divine sperm, remains permanently within him); and he cannot practice sinning because he is born (begotten) of God. 1 John 3:6-9 Amp |

96 | Why should we obey God? | Psalm | mbooker | 64168
Good morning Whatever... When I read your post, 1 Cor 3:12-15 came to my mind. While this passage does not explicitly speak of a 'degree of obedience', I do believe that the degree to which you do the good works that Abba Father planned for you to do (Eph 2:10), will directly correspond with the reward you receive (1 Cor 2:14-15). But if anyone builds upon the Foundation, whether it be with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw, the work of each (one) will become (plainly, openly) known (shown for what it is); for the day (of Christ) will disclose and declare it, because it will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test and critically appraise the character and worth of the work each person has done. If the work which any person has built on this Foundation (any product of his efforts whatever) survives (this test), he will get his reward. But if any person's work is burned up (under the test), he will suffer the loss (of it all, losing his reward), though he himself will be saved, but only as (one who has passed) through fire. 1 Corinthians 3:12-15 Amp For we are God's own handiwork (His workmanship), recreated in Christ Jesus, (born anew) that we may do those good works which God predestined (planned beforehand) for us (taking paths which He prepared ahead of time), that we should walk in them (living the good life which He prearranged and made ready for us to live). Ephesians 2:10 Amp Now… :) If you are asking if a person has to have a certain level/degree of obedience to get to heaven, I think if John 3:16 and John 6:28-29. For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that whosoever believe in him should not perish but have everlasting life. John 3:16 Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God? Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God: that you believe on him whom he has sent. John 6:28-29 Abba Father Bless… |

97 | Why should we obey God? | Psalm | mbooker | 64093
Because he said so :) just kidding... I think Psalms 19:7-11 gives a few good reasons to obey God. The law of the LORD is perfect, reviving the soul. The statutes of the LORD are trustworthy, making wise the simple. The precepts of the LORD are right, giving joy to the heart. The commands of the LORD are radiant, giving light to the eyes. The fear of the LORD is pure, enduring forever. The ordinances of the LORD are sure and altogether righteous. They are more precious than gold, than much pure gold; they are sweeter than honey, than honey from the comb. By them is your servant warned; in keeping them there is great reward. Deut 28 also gives a long list of blessings for obeying and gives even more curses for disobeying... Abba Father Bless... |

98 | a Muslim arguement | John 1:3 | mbooker | 64090
I agree meusing. They must not have read and/or believed: John 1:14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth. John 1:18 No man hath seen God at any time, the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him. John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. John 3:18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. 1 John 3:8 He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil. 1 John 4:15 Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God. 1 John 5:5 Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God? 1 John 5:10 He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son. 1 John 5:20 And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life. |

to add to what meusing said: Matthew 26:52-54 Then said Jesus unto him, Put up again thy sword into his place: for all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword.
