NASB | 1 Corinthians 7:21 ¶ Were you called while a slave? Do not worry about it; but if you are able also to become free, rather do that. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | 1 Corinthians 7:21 ¶ Were you a slave when you were called? Do not worry about that [since your status as a believer is equal to that of a freeborn believer]; but if you are able to gain your freedom, do that. |
Bible Question: 1 Corinthians 7:17-24 Has been used to say that slaves should have stayed in bondage, because that's the lot they were born for. does anyone have a take on the belief? and or passage to dispute this? |
Bible Answer: v 21 seems to dispute the notion that slaves (or at the VERY least slaves who became believers) should remain slaves if the opportunity for freedom showed itself. Are you a slave? Don't let that worry you--but if you get a chance to be free, take it. NLT Were you a slave when you were called? Do not let that trouble you. But if you are able to gain your freedom, avail yourself of the opportunity. Amp |
