21 | Governmental Authority? | Rom 13:1 | mbooker | 74482
Hi Ed I agree about Paul and maybe I came across wrong. I saw him using the law, ie asserting his rights, to his advantage, thus resisting the injustice that was done. I also agree that Montag makes an interesting argument... I am curious to know the way(s), the founding fathers, the anti slavery groups and the pro civil rights groups SHOULD have gone about gaining those things which they were seeking. If they DID NOT have legal recourses as Paul did, was there another biblical way for them? As I typed that last question, I Tim 2:1-2 comes to mind: I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. oh!! that's a HARD pill to swallow... praying for your oppressor... but it's in there so maybe that was the answer... Good morning Searcher When you say 'we' voilated scripture, do you mean the founding fathers, the slaves, or the civil rights advocates? Or all of them? Meredith |

23 | Governmental Authority? | Rom 13:1 | mbooker | 74416
Hi Montag Your question is VERY interesting... and here is the first passage of scripture that came to mind: The chief captain commanded him to be brought into the castle, and bade that he should be examined by scourging; that he might know wherefore they cried so against him. And as they bound him with thongs, Paul said unto the centurion that stood by, Is it lawful for you to scourge a man that is a Roman, and uncondemned? When the centurion heard that, he went and told the chief captain, saying, Take heed what thou doest: for this man is a Roman. Then the chief captain came, and said unto him, Tell me, art thou a Roman? He said, Yea. And the chief captain answered, With a great sum obtained I this freedom. And Paul said, But I was free born. Then straightway they departed from him which should have examined him: and the chief captain also was afraid, after he knew that he was a Roman, and because he had bound him. Acts 22:24-29 Could we say Paul was resisting authority in this passage? My answer would be he was resisting injustice (but I could be wrong! :) ). Your question has prompted in me this question: Was it wrong for my foreparents (those slaves that fought, in whatever way, against slavery) to resist the bondage and degregation heaped upon them, ie resist the authority that said they could not be free, could be sold, beaten, separated from their families, were less than human? Was it wrong for those of the civil rights era, to 'fight' for equal rights? Were they sinning when they resisted the authority that told them they could not vote, had to sit in the back of the bus, could only drink out of the 'colored' water fountains, had to attend segregated schools with inferior materials, were not entitled to equal rights/protections under the law? I believe it is good to also consider vv3-5 in conjunction with vv1-2: For rulers are not a cause of fear for good behavior, but for evil. Do you want to have no fear of authority? Do what is good and you will have praise from the same; for it is a minister of God to you for good. But if you do what is evil, be afraid; for it does not bear the sword for nothing; for it is a minister of God, an avenger who brings wrath on the one who practices evil. NASB Did the founding fathers, my foreparents and those of the civil rights era sin against God? I'm not sure either... but hopefully others with be able to shed some more light on the question. 25 | What is iniquity in Matthew 7:23? | Matt 7:23 | mbooker | 74094
Hi Brother John As I had been reading thru this thread, Matt 22:37-40 came to mind: Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets. Gal 5:14 and Matt 22:37-40 seem to compliment each other quite nicely :) Grace and peace to you Brother Meredith |

26 | Plucking Ears equals Breaking Sabbath | Luke 6:2 | mbooker | 74078
And it came to pass on the second sabbath after the first, that he went through the corn fields; and his disciples plucked the ears of corn, and did eat, rubbing them in their hands. Luke 6:1 Was the 'plucking of the ears' done by the disciples considered work? And if so, is that why some of the Pharisees asked 'Why do you do what is not lawful on the Sabbath?' |

27 | Did He break the sabbath or not? | Luke 6:7 | mbooker | 74077
Why did the scribes and pharisees consider healing on the sabbath a reason to accuse Jesus? Is it likely that they were going to accuse Him of breaking the sabbath?

'Paul was usually thrown out of the synagogue when he preached Christ! :-)' Interesting point brother Tim!! :) ps I pray that your daughter is doing better. I have a similar situation only reversed: the child (me) is praying for the addicted parent. But all praise to our Father, for He has done great things and it's marvelous in our eyes!! 31 | can anyone explain ? Mat 25.24 | Matt 25:24 | mbooker | 73367
Good Morning gracefull... Your post was an uplift for me today :) Just this morning before I got out of bed, I told Abba Father that I wanted to obey Him, not because I want to avoid all the bad stuff that comes with disobedience (ie fear), but I want to obey him because I love him. Then I was reminded of a scripture that I came across in a bible study: And the LORD thy God will circumcise thine heart, and the heart of thy seed, to love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, that thou mayest live. Deut 30:6 Grace and peace be multiplied to you :) Meredith |

32 | Isn't Baptism neccessary for salvation?? | Rom 10:9 | mbooker | 73244
CDBJ 'All of the Old Testament believers had to have faith in God’s perfect sacrifice the same way that we do today; they looked forward to it and we look back.' I appreciate your post. I was talking to a co-worker Wednesday and she said that she hopes to get to heaven ... IF she 'doesn't mess up too bad' (her exact words). I tried to convey to her that if we confess with our mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in our heart that God raised him from the dead, we shall be saved. She believes you have to 'have Jesus' but... it's 'faith and works' (again, her exacts words). Then she preceded to ask how was it determined in the OT who was 'saved'. I said I believed that those who were looking for the promised Messiah was the determining factor (thinking of Heb 11:13). Too bad I didn't say it as you did :) Meredith |

33 | how did god test abrakam | Gen 22:2 | mbooker | 73152
I believe it is also good to note that Abraham knew beyond all doubt (and present circumstances) that God was faithful to His promise to him about Isaac. He was able to boldly say ‘I and the lad will go yonder and worship, and come again to you’. He knew that God would raise Isaac up from the dead if need be… As the old Baptist hymnal says “Oh for a faith that will not shrink”! And it came to pass after these things, that God did tempt Abraham, and said unto him, Abraham: and he said, Behold, here I am. And he said, Take now thy son, thine only son Isaac, whom thou lovest, and get thee into the land of Moriah; and offer him there for a burnt offering upon one of the mountains which I will tell thee of. And Abraham rose up early in the morning, and saddled his ass, and took two of his young men with him, and Isaac his son, and clave the wood for the burnt offering, and rose up, and went unto the place of which God had told him. Then on the third day Abraham lifted up his eyes, and saw the place afar off. And Abraham said unto his young men, Abide ye here with the ass; and I and the lad will go yonder and worship, and come again to you. Genesis 22:1-5 By faith Abraham, when he was tried, offered up Isaac: and he that had received the promises offered up his only begotten son, Of whom it was said, That in Isaac shall thy seed be called: Accounting that God was able to raise him up, even from the dead; from whence also he received him in a figure. Hebrews 11:17-19 |

34 | No healing? why? | 2 Cor 1:4 | mbooker | 73066
inmyheart Jehovah-Rapha is one of my favorite names of Abba Father. I believe with all my heart that He is 'the LORD who heals' back in Exodus and I believe that He is still Jehovah-Raphe today! Bless His name!! As I was reading your post, I thought of John 10:10 and low and behold you end your post with it. Yes it is Satan, our enemy and adversary, that steals, kills and destroys. If it steals, kills or destroys, I give it to satan. But thanks be to our Father in heaven who sent Jesus that we may have life and have life more abundantly! Praise the great I AM!!! May you always know that you have been blessed with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places Your Sister in Christ Meredith |

40 | did God ever stop time for a day? | Joshua | mbooker | 72526
Joshua 10 shows the account: Then spake Joshua to the LORD in the day when the LORD delivered up the Amorites before the children of Israel, and he said in the sight of Israel, Sun, stand thou still upon Gibeon; and thou, Moon, in the valley of Ajalon. And the sun stood still, and the moon stayed, until the people had avenged themselves upon their enemies. Is not this written in the book of Jasher? So the sun stood still in the midst of heaven, and hasted not to go down about a whole day. vv12-13 |
