81 | Are women allowed to be pastors? | Bible general Archive 1 | RAVEN | 46646
No, women are not allowed to take a leadership role in the church. 1 Timothy 2 12And I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man, but to be in silence. And since you used the term pastor, you need to know that this term for a position in the church is interchangable with the terms overseer, bishop and elder. 1 Timothy 3 Qualifications of Overseers Qualifications of Church Officers 1 This is a faithful saying: If a man desires the position of a bishop,[1] he desires a good work. The reason for going off on the tangent is a pastor or elder is position to be held by men in every church and there should be more than one. Acts 14 23 "So when they had appointed elders in every church," Some think that the preacher is the pastor/overseer/elder and stands alone over the deacons of the church but this is not so. Just as there are more than one deacon in a church there should be more than one elder. And usually but not always (sometimes one of the elders fill this position as well) the person behind the pullpit is just the preacher and has no authority at all over the congregation this is the responsibility of the elders. In conclusion since we now have covered the definition of the office of elder and we can see by the above scripture that women are not to have authority over a men, now lets lets look at who can hold the position of elder/bishop. 1 Timothy 3 2A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, temperate, sober-minded, of good behavior, hospitable, able to teach; 3not given to wine, not violent, not greedy for money,[1] but gentle, not quarrelsome, not covetous; 4one who rules his own house well, having his children in submission with all reverence The above verse says that a bishop must be the HUSBAND of one wife along with other qualifications. So by these scriptures you can see that women are not to hold the position of pastor or any other leadership role in the church where men are present. Raven |

82 | "discrepencies" in the Word ? | 1 Sam 17:12 | RAVEN | 46457
Hello Gkellyser, The discrepency that you are speaking of is no discrepency at all. After doing some research I have found that if you look at the Hebrew word for "son" which is "ben" you will find this which comes from the Strongs Concordance, 01121 ben (bane) from 01129; TWOT - 254; n m AV - son 2978, children 1568, old 135, first 51, man 20, young 18, young 01241 17, child 10, stranger 10, people 5, misc 92; 4906 1) son, grandson, child, member of a group 1a) son, male child 1b) grandson 1c) children (pl. - male and female) 1d) youth, young men (pl.) 1e) young (of animals) 1f) sons (as characterisation, i.e. sons of injustice [for un- righteous men] or sons of God [for angels] 1g) people (of a nation) (pl.) 1h) of lifeless things, i.e. sparks, stars, arrows (fig.) 1i) a member of a guild, order, class After looking this up I discovered that in every scripture that you have in question ( and a lot more I might add ) uses this word. Notice that it is also used in reference to grandchildren. Interestingly enough if you read 2 Sam 13:3 you will find that Jesse's third son Shimeah had a son and his name was Jonadab. It was true that Jesse had only begot seven sons with David being the seventh as recorded in 1 Chronicles 2:13-15 but keep in mind the above information when reading 1 and 2 Samuel. I hope this has helped. Raven |

83 | Steadfastness (What does it means) | Acts 2:42 | RAVEN | 46404
Hello Bukola, First of all you must understand what steadfast means. It means to be unmoveable, continuing in the same way, not to be swayed by what men say but to only go to what the bible says for your answers. As an example the converted Christians on the Day of Pentacost, Acts 2 42And they continued steadfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers. The scriptures that you referenced uses imagery of how we as Christians are tempted everyday. This verse 14 "Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth", gives Christians the answer as to how to overcome the wicked one And before Eph 6:10-18 the scriptures again remind us to remain steadfast. Ephesians 4 14that we should no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting, 15but, speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head--Christ-- Raven |

84 | Raven, do you want ALL the Law? | Bible general Archive 1 | RAVEN | 45900
Well I guess I can't convience you that the Holy Spirit doesn't literally live in us. But if this true I just got one more question. Why do we have the inspired word of God if the Holy Spirit lives in us? It would seem to me that the Holy Spirit would guide us into all that is right thereby making the bible useless. John 14 25 "These things I have spoken to you while being present with you. 26But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He WILL TEACH YOU ALL THINGS, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you. John 16 13However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come. Tell me has the Holy Spirit taught you "all things" has He guided you "into all truth"? And you ask how do I explain Jesus. I don't but the bible says, Matthew 1 Christ Born of Mary (1) 18 Now the birth of Jesus Christ was as follows: After His mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with CHILD OF THE HOLY SPIRIT. Isaiah 7 14Therefore the Lord Himself will GIVE YOU A SIGN: Behold, THE VIRGIN SHALL CONCEIVE and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel. The last time I checked none of us including you were not born of a woman without the help of a man. Jesus was sent from God. The name Immanuel literally means God with us. Nobody can claim anything close to this today, not even the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. RAVEN |

Then God is a sinner just like man then. If reduce God to literally dwelling, that is living inside your body, then you have to associate God as being a partaker of sin. And thats just not scriptural I don't care how you look at it. Habakkuk 1 13You are of purer eyes than to behold evil, And cannot look on wickedness. Jesus Christ was totally human. He was also totally God. He was fully human as we are and yet He was deity. And you say that it is possible to have part of the Godhead inside our mortal bodies? Noway! This is mans way of saying if "I" do something wrong, if "I" sin then thats ok its no big deal because the Holy Spirit is in "me" and "I'm" once saved always saved and everything is alright and so "I'm" going to keep on doing what "I" want to do!! Man thinks it's all about him, but its not. Haven't you ever heard someone say, "He's got his daddy in him" or "she's got her mother in her". Well we know the are not really inside one another, but its their attributes that make them seem just like each other. And that is what God wants and has said. 1 John 1 Fellowship with Him and One Another 5 This is the message which we have heard from Him and declare to you, that God is light and in Him is no darkness at all. 6If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. 7But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin. 8If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the TRUTH IS NOT IN US. 9If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and HIS WORD IS NOT IN US. 1 John 3 9Whoever has been born of God does not sin, for HIS SEED REMAINS IN HIM; and he cannot sin,(CONTINUE IN SIN) because he has been born of God. Luke 8 11 "Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God. RAVEN |

86 | can the cheater re-marry? | Bible general Archive 1 | RAVEN | 45829
Follow-up I think I might have miss took your question. I thought you were asking could they re-marry each other. But you want to know if the cheater could re-marry someone else? Is this correct? The answer would be NO! This person is the one who violated the Law of God thereby has to remain unmarried to another. He or she can only be reconciled to their original mate. Raven |

87 | can the cheater re-marry? | Bible general Archive 1 | RAVEN | 45828
Yes, this is exceptable. But you have to understand that this type of thing cannot continue. If one spouse slips and falls into adultery and the other finds out, the adulter must come clean and admit the wrong. If they split up for a time (3-6 months) and the adulter realizes he/she has been making a mistake and desires to come back into the relationship and the other will forgive and accept them this is fine. But it really needs to be known that this kind of behavior must not happen again in the relationship because not only is it bad for the innocent party mentally but also spiritualy. If it continues then it would be best for the innocent one to divorce on the grounds of adultery and fornication and flee such a marraige. 1 Cor 7 Keep Your Marriage Vows 10 Now to the married I command, yet not I but the Lord: A wife is not to depart from her husband. 11But even IF SHE/HE DOES DEPART, LET HER/HIM REMAIN UNMARRIED "OR BE RECONCILED TO HER/HIM HUSBAND/WIFE." And a husband is not to divorce his wife. Also if the separated party comes back together there would be no need to re marry because they were not divorced. If they were divorced then marraige would be appropriate. Raven |

88 | Raven, do you want ALL the Law? | Bible general Archive 1 | RAVEN | 45811
Joe my friend saying that the almighty God dwells in someone literally is inacurate. It is Gods word which should dwell in us. Colossians 3 16Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord John 14 10Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father in Me? The words that I speak to you I do not speak on My own authority; but the Father who dwells in Me does the works. If we say that the Holy Spirit literally dwells in us then we would have to say that it also allows us to sin. And thats just not possible. God is perfect, Jesus Christ is perfect and the Holy Spirit is perfect, man is sinful. What did Solomon the wisest man to ever live say: 1 Kings 8 26And now I pray, O God of Israel, let Your word come true, which You have spoken to Your servant David my father. 27"But will God indeed dwell on the earth? Behold, HEAVEN AND HEAVEN OF HEAVENS CANNOT CONTAIN YOU. HOW MUCH LESS THIS TEMPLE WHICH I HAVE BUILT! Neither can our sinful bodies hold the Almighty God within us either! RAVEN |

Yes, if the person is not the guilty one in the marraige. If adultery is the cause of divorce then it is ok for the person who DID NOT commit the act of adultery, to remarry. Raven |

Look we understand that we are not under the Old Testement. For it says it was our tutor to bring us to Christ. But where you are incorrect is that you say the Laws(10 commandments) that were in the the Old do not apply to us today. Timothy 3 15and that from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are ABLE TO MAKE YOU WISE for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. 16ALL SCRIPTURE is given by inspiration of God, and is PROFITABLE for doctrine, for REPROOF, for CORRECTION, for INSTRUCTION IN RIGHTEOUSNESS, RAVEN RAVEN |

You call yourself ChristLifer, and yet you do not comply with the commandments that He gave us. John 12 48He who rejects Me, and does not receive My words, has that which judges him--the word that I have spoken will judge him in the last day. 49For I have not spoken on My own authority; but the Father who sent Me gave Me a command, what I should say and what I should speak. 50And I know that His command is everlasting life. Therefore, whatever I speak, just as the Father has told Me, so I speak." RAVEN |

You are trying to twist around to get out of a commanment that God has wanted from the begining. Jesus re-emphasises this when He said, Adultery in the Heart 27 "You have heard that it was said to those of old,[1] "You shall not commit adultery.'[2] 28But I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart. The commanments the Old Testement still hold true in the New Testement. The only difference is how we go about being saved. The Jews had to give blood sacriices once a year but Jesus died once for all. But gaining redemption through Christ blood has nothing to do with marraige and divorce. This scripture that you made reference to 1 Corinthians 7 Keep Your Marriage Vows 10 Now to the married I command, yet not I but the Lord: A wife is not to depart from her husband. 11But even if she does depart, let her remain unmarried or be reconciled to her husband. And a husband is not to divorce his wife. 12But to the rest I, not the Lord, say: If any brother has a wife who does not believe, and she is willing to live with him, let him not divorce her. 13And a woman who has a husband who does not believe, if he is willing to live with her, let her not divorce him. 14For the unbelieving husband is sanctified by the wife, and the unbelieving wife is sanctified by the husband; otherwise your children would be unclean, but now they are holy. 15But if the unbeliever departs, let him depart; a brother or a sister is not under bondage in such cases. But God has called us to peace. Says that we are not under bondage in such cases. But this doesn't mean they are divorced or no longer married. For it says if the unbeliever departs. People separate everyday but they are still very much married. This verse is simple saying that the believer does not have to comply with the unbeliever and go along with them. For a Christians first responsibility is to serve Christ and do what is right in Gods eyes. But is know way means that the believer must stay unmarried for since they are both still married and the unbeliever goes to be with another then the believer may divorce them on the grounds of adultery and fornication thus complying with Gods law. This is the only way for divorce to be handled in accordance with what the bible says. Jesus said it best when He said, "except for fornication". If you take 1 Cor 7 and turn it into what you want to say to go along with your lifestyle then you make the bible contradict itself and therefore make Jesus a lier. Not to mention the fact that all scripture came thru the Holy Spirit, so that mean that He couldn't get His story straight either. No that is not what happened, but man would like to think that to justify their actions. Raven |

Let me give you something to think about, Isaiah 55 8"For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways," says the LORD. 9"For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways, And My thoughts than your thoughts. Romans 11 32For God has committed them all to disobedience, that He might have mercy on all. 33Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and His ways past finding out! Gods law is for all and crosses all boundaries. The unbeliever must learn about God before he can be saved. This learning starts form a child. Timothy 3 15and that from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. 16All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, Now back to the point, it doesn't matter if I'm right it only matters what God has said, and He said "whoever". Matthew 19 9And I say to you, WHOEVER divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality,[1] and marries another, commits adultery; and whoever marries her who is divorced commits adultery." The word of God is for all and we will all be judged by it. John 12 48He who rejects Me, and does not receive My words, has that which judges him--the word that I have spoken will judge him in the last day. RAVEN |

96 | Why cant I remarry, even though... | Bible general Archive 1 | RAVEN | 45515
I didn't read all of your note but I didn't have to after you said, "To insist that two people stay in an abusive relationship, whether it is sexual, physical, or psycological, is just plain legalism and doesn't stand up to scripture." I can tell you right now that if have read any scripture on the subject of marraige and divorce you would see that it does stand up. The purpose of the bible is to teach the gospel of Christ to everyone. And if people would truley pattern their lives after the bible you would not have all these disfunctional marraiges. Yet you site the very kind of people in these disfunctional marragies that have probably never read the scriptures that teach on marriage and divorce much less been to a church that has. Ephesians 5 25Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her, 26that He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word, 27that He might present her to Himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that she should be holy and without blemish. 28So husbands ought to love their own wives as their own bodies; he who loves his wife loves himself. 29For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as the Lord does the church. Philippians 4 Meditate on These Things 8 Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy--meditate on these things. 9The things which you learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do, and the God of peace will be with you. Now you tell me that God should allow marraiges to be disolved because of the reasons you state? No!, you have been given the blueprint to go by and its your fault if you don't abide by it! If two people who are Christians get married and each of them love God more than each other then there will nothing but joy and love in their relationship and a lifetime together to worship God. 97 | you said I can remarry... | Bible general Archive 1 | RAVEN | 45507
Yes, God has stated from the begining, Genesis 2 23And Adam said: "This is now bone of my bones And flesh of my flesh; She shall be called Woman, Because she was taken out of Man." 24Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his "wife", and they shall become one flesh. Mark 10 6But from the beginning of the creation, God "made them male and female.'[1] 7"For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his "wife", 8and the two shall become one flesh';[2] so then they are no longer two, but one flesh. It matters not that one, both or none are believers in Christ. Though it would be best for both to be sound Christians, this law was put in place to stop poligamy and adultrious relationships. But sadly this is not the way many (including self pro-claimed Christians) view this law. Lamech was the first recorded person to break this law. Genesis 4 19Then Lamech took for himself two wives: the name of one was Adah, and the name of the second was Zillah. The thing we are to understand about marraige is that it is a sacred institution set up by God from the begining to procreate the race. But man with the lust of his eye and his flesh has reduced what God has established to a marraige of convenience and if it doesn't work out people just split and find somebody else. And the whole while people just choose to ignore the above scriptures and they think that they do not fall into this one. Hebrews 13 4Marriage is honorable among all, and the bed undefiled; but fornicators and adulterers God will judge Raven |

Matthew 5 Marriage Is Sacred and Binding (1) 31 "Furthermore it has been said, "Whoever divorces his wife, let him give her a certificate of divorce.' 32But I say to you that whoever divorces his wife for any reason except sexual immorality[1] causes her to commit adultery; and whoever marries a woman who is divorced commits adultery. Matthew 19 6So then, they are no longer two but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate." 7They said to Him, "Why then did Moses command to give a certificate of divorce, and to put her away?" 8He said to them, "Moses, because of the hardness of your hearts, permitted you to divorce your wives, but from the beginning it was not so. 9And I say to you, whoever divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality,[1] and marries another, commits adultery; and whoever marries her who is divorced commits adultery." Romans 7 Freed from the Law 1 Or do you not know, brethren (for I speak to those who know the law), that the law has dominion over a man as long as he lives? 2For the woman who has a husband is bound by the law to her husband as long as he lives. But if the husband dies, she is released from the law of her husband. 3So then if, while her husband lives, she marries another man, she will be called an adulteress; but if her husband dies, she is free from that law, so that she is no adulteress, though she has married another man. 99 | Is the Book of Mormon inspired of God? | Bible general Archive 1 | RAVEN | 45465
No. And one look at the book of Mormon will show you that it could not have come from the hand of God. The book of Mormon is filled with literaly hundreds of gramatical, historical and time and date errors. The author of the book was Joseph Smith and the story goes that he was visited by an angel and was told to look for two Gold plates under a tree. The plates (Urim and Thrumin) was supposed to be written around 500 years before Jesus Christ yet they reference Jesus as being alive during that period. It is said That when he found the plates that God translated line into english for him to write the book of Mormon. Now only two other people were shown the plates supposedly and there is no other proof of this other than having to take their word for it. With all its flaws and mistakes one cannot put any credibilty in this book. The bible on the other hand has been proved to be an historical an accurate time line of events that took place. The people, the places, the time and dates, medical procedures like circumcision for male babies was recorded to be on day eight per the word of God. Why? Scientist have determined in only the last fifty years as to why. That day is the only day in a boys life that a platelet called prothomdon spikes in the blood that causes the blood to clot. After day eight the levels drop and never go back up. How did Abraham Know this? God can be the only answer. These and other things like itin the bible can be checked out and are accurate. The book of Mormon has nothing of this magnitude for any rational person to believe that it is the word of God. Galatians 1 8But even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed. Raven |

If you divorced for the reason of adultry, then you are free to marry again if you were not the one at fault, or if the spouse dies. Other than this the bible gives no other authority for divorce. I'm sorry. Raven |
