121 | Why would someone get rebaptised? | Bible general Archive 1 | RAVEN | 42022
Hello ElizabethFunke, I would just like to point out that the scripture where Jesus says in Matthew 19 14But Jesus said, "Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of heaven." Does not in any way allow for infant, baby or child baptism. Now where in scripture does it show the conversion of a baby or a child. Nor does scripture teach that an infant is born into sin and therefore is defiled by sin. Jesus says in an earlier scripture: Matthew 18, 2Then Jesus called a little child to Him, set him in the midst of them, 3and said, "Assuredly, I say to you, unless YOU ARE CONVERTED AND BECOME AS LITTLE CHILDREN, YOU will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven. 4Therefore whoever humbles himself as this little child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. 5Whoever receives one little child like this in My name receives Me. This scripture is one that shows proof positive that children are in a safe state until that have reached that age of understanding which you have already stated. Therefore there is no need for baptizing a child. Any such practice would be going against scripture. And the only need for be re-baptised would be if the person (adult) was baptised for the wrong reason. Such as being baptised to join a church and not for the remission of sins as shown in Acts 2:37-46. Because in the last verse in this chapter we see that the Lord adds to the church. And example of being re baptised because the first was not valed is this scripture: Acts 19 1 And it happened, while Apollos was at Corinth, that Paul, having passed through the upper regions, came to Ephesus. And finding some disciples 2he said to them, "Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?" So they said to him, "We have not so much as heard whether there is a Holy Spirit." 3And he said to them, "Into what then were you baptized?" So they said, "Into John's baptism." 4Then Paul said, "John indeed baptized with a baptism of repentance, saying to the people that they should believe on Him who would come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus." 5When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. I hope this has helped shed some light on this subject. Raven |

Hello, I would like to suggest a website that would give you some material that can be referenced in the bible. Its apologeticspress.com , Bert Thompson and about five other well educated Christian men work at this place and put out different articles and liturature on Bible evidences. I think it would be well worth your time to visit this site. Your friend in Christ, Raven |

124 | Mathew 16:18--what is the "rock"? | Bible general Archive 1 | RAVEN | 41741
Hello Angel1, I was going to say in my reply to you something about Catholics and the way they believe this scripture. But I was not that clear on the details. Is it something like they teach that the church was founded on Peters teaching and doctrine and not Jesus? Please write back if you know and explain to me. Thanks Your friend in Christ, Raven |

125 | Mathew 16:18--what is the "rock"? | Bible general Archive 1 | RAVEN | 41567
Hello angel1, The "rock" was the confession that Peter made. Read below this verse and see that Jesus ask "who do men say that I am?" And Peter confessed that He was the Christ the Son of the Living God. And Jesus being please with this confession this "rock solid" evidence) that He was indeed the Christ. Jesus then says that on this rock, this confession, He would build His church. Matthew 16 Peter Confesses Jesus as the Christ (3) 13 When Jesus came into the region of Caesarea Philippi, He asked His disciples, saying, "Who do men say that I, the Son of Man, am?" 14So they said, "Some say John the Baptist, some Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets." 15He said to them, "But who do you say that I am?" 16Simon Peter answered and said, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God." 17Jesus answered and said to him, "Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven. 18And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it. I hope this has helped. Your friend in Christ, Raven |

126 | Did Noah ask ? | Bible general Archive 1 | RAVEN | 41538
To help answer your question I submit the following paragraph taken from an article in Reason and Revelation 1998, "In Defense of the Genesis Flood Part 1", by Bert Thompson,Ph.D. Because of Noah’s faithfulness, a “probationary period” of a maximum of 120 years was established by God (Genesis 6:3). During that time, Noah preached to the people of his generation (1 Peter 3:18-20), all the while carrying out the commands of God regarding the building of the ark (Genesis 6). After approximately 100 years, Noah’s work was completed (Genesis 5:32 indicates that Noah was 500 years old prior to the events of Genesis 6-8; Genesis 7:6 indicates that Noah was 600 years old when he entered the ark. It appears from a straightforward reading of the text that, of the probationary period of 120 years imposed by God, Noah used 100 years or less). However, for all his preaching Noah’s only “converts” were members of his own family group. People no doubt grew accustomed to the large hulk of the great ark, and at the same time grew apathetic to Noah’s message of salvation from impending doom. Sin continued as the probationary period drew to a close. The decree had been made; the grace of God had been extended; the time for action was at hand. Mankind’s sin now would result in God sending a worldwide Flood. Also, I might add to this that Matt. 24:38 says "For as in the days before the flood, they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark,". So basically even though Noah obviously tried to warn them they just dismissed all that he said and probably thought of him as the village idiot. I hope this has helped answer your question. Raven |

Hello Glenn, Just a couple other things. You believe the bible is the Word of God? I don't mean that it contains the Word as some think. But that it is the Word and the complete Word? Then you would have to say that what is written in the bible is true correct? Then for those who are still screaming that believing is all that salvation requires then I submit the following verse, James 2 19You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe--and tremble! Do you believe the demons are in a saved state? And to those that say God does not place conditions on salvation, then meeting the condition of " the will of My Father in heaven" from the following verse is not necessary then is it? Matthew 7 I Never Knew You (5) 21 "Not everyone who says to Me, "Lord, Lord,' shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. 22Many will say to Me in that day, "Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?' 23And then I will declare to them, "I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!' As I have shown before there have been conditions on different things through out the bible. Jesus said in John 14 "If you love Me, keep[1] My commandments". Salvation is conditional! 128 | Will we be forgiven only so many times? | Bible general Archive 1 | RAVEN | 41334
Hello Carla, This is the verse you were looking for. Matthew 18 The Parable of the Unforgiving Servant 21 Then Peter came to Him and said, "Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? Up to seven times?" 22Jesus said to him, "I do not say to you, up to seven times, but up to seventy times seven. But sining after we have become a Christian is unfortunatly going to happen. Romans 3 23for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, But the way we sin is the difference of one who has hope of salvation and one who does not. We can not continue to live the way we used to live after we have obeyed the gospel. Romans 6 Dead to Sin, Alive to God 1 What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? 2Certainly not! How shall we who died to sin live any longer in it? You see once a person becomes a Christian they have had a change of heart and are to try(though we will slip) to live for God. Hebrews 10 The Just Live by Faith 26 For if we sin willfully after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, A person cannot continue using bad language, going to places that are not appropriate for Christian behavior. The reason for this is God loves you and he knows that we are weak in the flesh and does not want us to sin. Galatians 5 Walking in the Spirit 16 I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. 17For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish. 18But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. 19Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery,[3] fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, 20idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, 21envy, murders,[4] drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. And so with that said, 1 Corinthians 10 12Therefore let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall. Your friend in Christ, Raven |

129 | Show in the Bible once saved always | Bible general Archive 1 | RAVEN | 41330
Hello Glenn, I am glad you ask this question. Though I do not know your belief in this matter I will tell you up front you will receive alot of responces that will tell you only to believe in Jesus and you will be saved. But the truth is thats not bible based doctrine. Yes, I know all the verses that say "call on the name the Lord", "if you believe in the Lord", and the favorite "we are saved by grace". And I am not going to deny any of that. You must call on the name of the Lord, that is to confess His name that He is the Christ. Matthew 10 32 "Therefore whoever confesses Me before men, him I will also confess before My Father who is in heaven. And we must believe,John 9,35 Jesus heard that they had cast him out; and when He had found him, He said to him, "Do you believe in the Son of God?"[5] 36He answered and said, "Who is He, Lord, that I may believe in Him?" 37And Jesus said to him, "You have both seen Him and it is He who is talking with you." 38Then he said, "Lord, I believe!" And he worshiped Him. And also it is true that the grace of God saves us.Ephesians 2 8For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, But, if you have read any of your bible in the Old Testement you would see that man has always had to do somthing to receive Gods grace. The Patriarchs offered sacrifices and Noah, he built the ark. It was Gods grace that warned him of the coming flood and the people laughed at him and didn't believe him did they. If Noah would have just said Lord I believe he and his whole family would have died in the flood the same as the rest! And in the New Testement our salvation is through the blood of Christ. But again its conditional. How do we come into contact with the blood of Christ today? Through water baptism.John 3, 5Jesus answered, "Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. Romans 6 Dead to Sin, Alive to God 1 What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? 2Certainly not! How shall we who died to sin live any longer in it? 3Or do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death? 4Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. Jesus comanded water baptism as a condition to being saved Mark 16:16 along with belief and faith. Peter says,1 Peter 3 19by whom also He went and preached to the spirits in prison, 20who formerly were disobedient, when once the Divine longsuffering waited[1] in the days of Noah, while the ark was being prepared, in which a few, that is, eight souls, were saved through water. 21There is also an antitype which now saves us--baptism (not the removal of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God), through the resurrection of Jesus Christ, 22who has gone into heaven and is at the right hand of God, angels and authorities and powers having been made subject to Him. There is a case of once saved always saved in the bible but its conditional.1 John 1 7But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin. I hope this has helped and if you have any futher questions please ask. Your friend in Christ, Raven |

130 | Church of Christ doctrine | Bible general Archive 1 | RAVEN | 40958
Hello Grace7044, I am a member of Christ church and would be happy to tell you of the church of Christ. The church of Christ is just that, Christ church. Read Matt 16:16-18. The church was established in Acts chapter 2 on the Day of Pentacost. The church does not use the addition of mechanical instuments when singing praises to God. It has Elders and Deacons as described in 1 Tim 3:1 and Titus 1. This describes the governmental setup of the church and shows bishops, overseers, pastors and elders as being more than one per church. In other words when you read about these or this office it is plural. The church also recognizes the Lords Supper each Lords day. We as Christians are to learn from the Apostles in the bible and use their lifestyle (since they patterned their life after Christ) as a pattern for the way we do things and in worship. Acts 2 42And they continued steadfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers. And it is written, 1 Corinthians 11 25In the same manner He also took the cup after supper, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in My blood. This do, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me." 26For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord's death till He comes. Lastley, we hold to the truth that baptism is esential for salvation. John 3 4Nicodemus said to Him, "How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother's womb and be born?" 5Jesus answered, "Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. 1 Peter 3 21There is also an antitype which now saves us--baptism (not the removal of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God), through the resurrection of Jesus Christ In short the church of Christ is not a denomination. It is the the church that Jesus Christ said He would build and as best as possibe we try to do as the bible commands. Read Rev 22:8-19. I wrote this kinda fast but I hope this helps and I would be happy to answer anymore of your questions. Your friend in Christ, Raven |

131 | Is JESUS a ticket to heaven or is a way | Bible general Archive 1 | RAVEN | 40948
Are you asking because you do not understand or that you do not believe Jesus is the Christ? Please read these few verses again in this prayer that Jesus offered up to His Father. John 17 3And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, AND JESUS CHRIST WHOM YOU HAVE SENT. 11Now I am no longer in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to You. Holy Father, keep through Your name those whom You have given Me,[2] that they MAY BE ONE AS WE ARE. 20 "I do not pray for these alone, but also for those WHO WILL BELIEVE IN ME THROUGH THEIR WORD;21that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me. Now after reading these you should also know that yours and everyone else's salvation in through Jesus Christ. Jesus said, John 14 6Jesus said to him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. "NO ONE" comes to the Father except through Me. and Jesus also said, Luke 24 The Scriptures Opened 44 Then He said to them, "These are the words which I spoke to you while I was still with you, that all things must be fulfilled which were written in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms concerning Me." 45And He opened their understanding, that they might comprehend the Scriptures. 46Then He said to them, "Thus it is written, and thus it was necessary for the Christ to suffer and to rise[8] from the dead the third day, 47and that REPENTANCE AND REMISSION OF SINS SHOULD BE PREACHED IN HIS NAME TO ALL NATIONS, beginning at Jerusalem. 48And you are witnesses of these things. 49Behold, I send the Promise of My Father upon you; but tarry in the city of Jerusalem[9] until you are endued with power from on high." Finally, Jesus is our advocate with the Father, 1 John 2 1 My little children, these things I write to you, so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. 2And He Himself is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the whole world. If you reject Jesus you reject God for Jesus was from God! Luke 10 16He who hears you hears Me, he who rejects you rejects Me, and he who rejects Me rejects Him who sent Me." So, in closing,YES! Jesus is everyones ticket to Heaven! The question to you my friend are you going to use it? You friend in Christ, Raven |

132 | can I help a nonbelieve from a divorce | Bible general Archive 1 | RAVEN | 40676
Hello Stanlee, I would ask you first what are your convictions on divorce and remaraige? Secondly, has this person who is the non-believer ever been introduced to the truth of the gospel? The reason for the first question is, if your convictions are not that of what the bible says in Matt 19:9 then there is nothing more to be said. Your friend in Christ, Raven |

134 | Been to every church? | Bible general Archive 1 | RAVEN | 39804
Hey Tim, You wrote, 1) There is no doubt that the gifts will cease. The Bible says so! However, when this will occur is not explained in any great detail. The indication is given however that this will not occur until full knowledge is obtained. I would say that the best guess (since it is not stated) would be sometime after Christ returns, probably the New Heaven and New Earth - where there will no longer be a need for the gifts. What scripture do you base your assumption on? And why do you think gifts are needed today? If a sign is needed for us to believe, then we have to say that the bible is not needed or is flawed in some way and that the Holy Spirit could not accomplish all that He says the bible is. Please read, Romans 16 Benediction 25 Now to Him who is able to establish you according to my gospel and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery kept secret since the world began 26but now made manifest, and by the PROPHETIC SCRIPTURES MADE KNOWN TO ALL NATIONS, according to the commandment of the everlasting God, FOR THE OBEDIENCE TO THE FAITH-- 27to God, alone wise, be glory through Jesus Christ forever. Amen. 2 Timothy 3 15and that from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, WHICH ARE ABLE to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. 16All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, 17that the MAN OF GOD MAY BE COMPLETE, THOROUGHLY EQUIPPED FOR EVERY GOOD WORK. You wrote, 3) We are never told that the apostles could distribute the Gifts of the Spirit. 1 Cor. 12 says that God does this as He wills. It was Gods will that they should give the gift of the Holy Spirit to those who believed and were baptised in the name of Jesus Christ so the Gospel would spread. Please read, Mark 16 The Great Commission (4) 14 Later He appeared to the eleven as they sat at the table; and He rebuked their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they did not believe those who had seen Him after He had risen. 15And He said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. 16He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned. 17And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; 18they[2] will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover." Acts 13:2-12 Acts 19 6And when Paul had laid hands on them, the Holy Spirit came upon them, and they spoke with tongues and prophesied. You wrote, 5) I would disagree that the Bible is the only way that the Holy Spirit speaks to us. It is the only authoritative way, but He also speaks through: a) Circumstances, b) Our conscience, c) Other people, d) Preaching and teaching, e) ect... I can see that you might believe that the Holy Spirit might speak to us through the things you have listed. But a,b,c would have to do with if we have read the scriptures so we would understand what we are feeling and hearing. But "d", preaching and teaching is a way that the Holy Spirit communicates with us but not through the words of man but from the word in the bible. 2 Peter 1 21for prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God[1] SPOKE as they WERE MOVED by the Holy Spirit. Notice the words "spoke" and "were moved". They are past tense. No were can you find a present or future tense when concerning the word of God. For we know, Romans 10 17So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. If there are those who can speak in toungues and have gifts from God then why do they not make themselves known to the rest of the world so that we may all know of the mysterys of God? 135 | Been to every church? | Bible general Archive 1 | RAVEN | 39718
Hello Tim, We have had discussions before and I have enjoyed them. I would like to say that 1 Cor. 13 does not say "the bible" is the "that which is perfect". But as you know this discussion is about speaking in toungues, and I think you would have to agree that this chapter says they will cease. It also says that prophecies will fail and knowledge will vanish away. But Paul who wrote this also said "And though I have the "gift of prophecy," and "understand all mysteries" and all knowledge,". Paul as well as the other apostles had these gifts and were able if they so choose to give these gifts to others in order to spread the gospel. But as we all will do some day they died. And if you read I am sure that you will find no place in the bible where provisions where made to allow these gifts to continue. Instead it says they will end. So what do we have to bring us to God? His word. We have the perfect complete inspired word of God in the bible. Interestingly enough Paul says in the book of Ephesians that when we read we can understand. Read what? The bible! The dispute is weather or not there are people who can speak in toungues. And the answer the bible gives is no. Unlike those people we read about in the bible who did not have the completed word, today we do and this how the Holy Spirit speaks to us, and thats the only way. Ephesians 3 The Mystery Revealed The Gentiles Are Fellow Heirs 1 For this reason I, Paul, the prisoner of Christ Jesus for you Gentiles-- 2if indeed you have heard of the dispensation of the grace of God which was given to me for you, 3how that by revelation He made known to me the mystery (as I have briefly written already, 4BY WHICH, WHEN YOU READ, YOU MAY UNDERSTAND MY KNOWLEDGE IN THE MYSTERY OF CHRIST), 5which in other ages was not made known to the sons of men, as it has now been revealed by the Spirit to His holy apostles and prophets: 6that the Gentiles should be fellow heirs, of the same body, and partakers of His promise in Christ through the gospel, 7of which I became a minister according to the gift of the grace of God given to me by the effective working of His power. So if its not talking about the bible being "that which is perfect" then what do you think its talking about? Your friend in Christ, Raven |
||||||
136 | Been to every church? | Bible general Archive 1 | RAVEN | 39663
Plese then tell me what language they are speaking? And what proof do you have that they are actualy speaking in a different language and not just making up nonsense? Remember Acts 2, this what they did. Its says that each man could understand in "his own" language. Is it the same ones everytime that do this? How do you know that they have not studied another language without your knowing and this is what they are speaking? And also as I have already showed you in 1 Cor 13 and 14 that tongues will cease along with other miracles when that which is perfect comes. So according to you the bible is not perfect or complete or even the last word when it comes to Gods word. I guess now God wants to add to his word or make an amendment to the bible thru these people who claim to speak in toungues? Please don't be fooled by these people. Read the bible for yourself and take it for the authoritative inspired word 2 Tim 3:15-17. It is the word of God and Malachi 3 says "For I am the LORD, I do not change". You can read it and understand it 2 Pet 1:20 says scripture is of no private interpretation and John 8:32 says you can know the truth. I can see by your response that what I said has struck a chord with you, but sometimes it takes getting ones feelings hurt so they can see that they are going down the wrong road. And I can only tell you what the bible says, and if this is in conflict with what you believe then maybe you should re-think your position. Galatians 1 Only One Gospel 6 I marvel that you are turning away so soon from Him who called you in the grace of Christ, to a different gospel, 7which is not another; but there are some who trouble you and want to pervert the gospel of Christ. 8But even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed. 9As we have said before, so now I say again, if anyone preaches any other gospel to you than what you have received, let him be accursed. 10For do I now persuade men, or God? Or do I seek to please men? For if I still pleased men, I would not be a bondservant of Christ. Call to Apostleship (1) 11 But I make known to you, brethren, that the gospel which was preached by me is not according to man. 12For I neither received it from man, nor was I taught it, but it came through the revelation of Jesus Christ. 139 | Can a divorced person remarry? | 1 Cor 7:15 | RAVEN | 39007
No, you are wrong in the case of what Paul has said. Nowhere does he say that the person has the right to remarry just because the unbeliever has left. The NKJV below states that the brother or sister in Christ is not under bondage in such cases. The word bondage means slavery. In other words the believer does not have to do as the unbeliever, so let them go if that is what they want. But it is up to the believer to hold to the marraige vows. That is why as even you have stated, Christ said no divorce "EXCEPT" for fornication. And thats it final. Christ is not going to say with the one exception of fornication and then let Paul come back and amend what he told them earlier. 1 Corinthians 7 Keep Your Marriage Vows 10 Now to the married I command, yet not I but the Lord: A wife is not to depart from her husband. 11But even if she does depart, let her remain unmarried or be reconciled to her husband. And a husband is not to divorce his wife. 12But to the rest I, not the Lord, say: If any brother has a wife who does not believe, and she is willing to live with him, let him not divorce her. 13And a woman who has a husband who does not believe, if he is willing to live with her, let her not divorce him. 14For the unbelieving husband is sanctified by the wife, and the unbelieving wife is sanctified by the husband; otherwise your children would be unclean, but now they are holy. 15But if the unbeliever departs, let him depart; a brother or a sister is not under bondage in such cases. But God has called us to peace Now if you want to carry this verse further but staying in line with biblical teaching, if the unbeliver departs and then commits adultry with another then the beliver can by scripture divorce him or her. And that is it, no other exceptions for divorce. This is Gods way of keeping everybody from just marrying and divorcing a multiple number of times. And God allowed through Moses the people to write the certificate of divorce because of the hardness of their hearts. But Jesus sets them straight by saying, "Because of the hardness of your heart he wrote you this precept. 6But from the beginning of the creation, God "made them male and female.'[1] 7"For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, 8and the two shall become one flesh';[2] so then they are no longer two, but one flesh. 9Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate." Mark 10 So for this reason a man and a woman are married once until death. There can be no changing what scripture teaches. When a person decides for themselves that they are going to have their way about marraige and divorce they are in a sence de-throning God and in the end they will wish they had read what God said and listened instead of believing what man says and does. Romans 7 1 Or do you not know, brethren (for I speak to those who know the law), that the law has dominion over a man as long as he lives? 2For the woman who has a husband is bound by the law to her husband as long as he lives. But if the husband dies, she is released from the law of her husband. 3So then if, while her husband lives, she marries another man, she will be called an adulteress; but if her husband dies, she is free from that law, so that she is no adulteress, though she has married another man. 140 | Can a divorced person remarry? | 1 Cor 7:15 | RAVEN | 38895
Hello Kalos, I can kinda understand where you are coming from with this question even though I myself have never been divorced nor do I intend to be. But I have a friend who has gone through a divorce and then afterwards she got back together with her X about five times trying I guess to make it work. And they intended to get remarried several times. But then she would either catch him with another woman or he would hit her and they would fight and it got pretty bad several times. But what I am trying to get to is the first time she divorced him, it was because "they didn't get along" of course they got along enough to bring a child into the world. There is know place in scripture that says if a married couple doesn't get along its ok to divorce. You see its mans responsibility to know what God wnats when it comes to marraige. And if you want to get to the real problem she and him neither was or are Christians. If they had been and both had studied Gods word and lived a faithful life to God this would in most cases not have happened. People take marraige so light. They say "If it don't work I'll just get a divorce". And this is so common in todays society. And from reading some of the responces you have received from this question, many still feel the same way. But thats just it, it's not about feelings, its about God and whats right. This girl I was telling you about, now she has gone on and remarried another even though the bible says its commiting adultry. She probably had her chance to divorce him legaly in Gods eyes the first time she divorced him but I guess she didn't know about him enough to know if he was cheating then. Its a sad situation to be in. Theres a man down the street from me, in the same boat. Married when he was eighteen, to young to understand what they where getting in to. So six months later they divorced. Sad. Now he's in his early forty's and wants to remarry. Ask me what I thought, and because even I at the time was not that versed in the bible I told him what one of your responders told you. That if at the time when he was married he was not a Christian it wouldn't matter. Because I said if he would repent and obey the gospel and become a Christian he could re-marry. But I had to call him back and tell him I was sorry for leading him the wrong way. You see I had wanted so much to convert him to Christainty that I over looked a key word in the scripture. Matthew 19 9And I say to you, whoever divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality,[1] and marries another, commits adultery; and whoever marries her who is divorced commits adultery." It says "whoever" meaning anybody. It wasn't talking about just Christians, it was talking about everyone who took the vow of marraige. There is only one reason given for divorce and that is fornication. I am sorry but I didn't say it God did. And to those out there who read this I am sorry for you too but you cannot just through these scriptures out and think you are ok because you are not. Sure I guess you can now but one day the fun will be over and it will be time to die and face the judgement. Hebrews 9 27And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment, Marraige is something we take serious especially since the word of God has this to say, Galatians 5 19Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery,[3] fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, 20idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, 21envy, murders,[4] drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. Below are more scriptures pertaining to this subject, Matthew 5 Marriage Is Sacred and Binding (4) 31 "Furthermore it has been said, "Whoever divorces his wife, let him give her a certificate of divorce.' 32But I say to you that whoever divorces his wife for any reason except sexual immorality[5] causes her to commit adultery; and whoever marries a woman who is divorced commits adultery. Mark 10 2The Pharisees came and asked Him, "Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife?" testing Him. 3And He answered and said to them, "What did Moses command you?" 4They said, "Moses permitted a man to write a certificate of divorce, and to dismiss her." 5And Jesus answered and said to them, "Because of the hardness of your heart he wrote you this precept. 6But from the beginning of the creation, God "made them male and female.'[1] 7"For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, 8and the two shall become one flesh';[2] so then they are no longer two, but one flesh. 9Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate."
