781 | Hebrews10:26-31 | Heb 10:26 | humbledbyhisgrace | 212308
Hi Crystal, Welcome to the Study Bible Forum! I see you have received some good responses to your question and I hope you will prayerfully consider what everyone has shared with you. I wanted to take the opportunity to share with you also because God's grace is so amazing and your need for Him is essential. God the Father sent God the Son (Jesus) to be the Saviour of the world (1 John 4:14). It is only through the Son that God's plan of salvation is accomplished (Acts 4:12, John 14:6) We were born into sin and therefore dead in sin, separated from God our Creator (1 Corinthians 15:22 , Ephesians 2:12) In our sinful nature, we suppress the truth of God in unrighteousness even though that which is known about God is evident within us. (Romans 1:18-23 , Romans 3:9-20). But God, in His grace took the initiative to reconcile mankind to Himself through the sinless life and death of His only begotten Son (John 3:16, Ephesians 2:4-10, Romans 3:21-24). God the Father sent His Son (Jesus) to free us from sin (Romans 6:6-7, Romans 6:17-18) and to give to those who believe in Him the right to be children of God (John 1:12). Jesus shed blood in sacrifice satisfied the demands of God's divine justice. God the Father confirmed in the resurrection of the Son that the sacrifice of the Son is complete and sufficient for the sins of the world (Matthew 28, John 20:19-22, 1 Corinthians 15:3-8, 1 John 2:2). Jesus paid the debt owed to God for our sins (Matthew 20:28, Colossians 2:13-14) and by God's grace, those who believe in Christ Jesus are justified as a gift and have peace with God and are reconciled back to Him(Romans 3:22-25, Romans 5:1, 2 Corinthians 5:18-19, Colossians 1:20-22). Crystal, you are no different then any of the rest of us. We were all sinners just like you and desperate for a Saviour. There is not one born again Christian that has anything to boast about or claim they have done on their own. Each and every one of us who has been saved has been saved by the grace of God through faith (Ephesians 2:8-10). In 1 Corinthians 15:3-4 Paul says (15:3)"For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, (15:4) and that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures And Paul says in Romans 10:9-10 (10:9) that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved (10:10) for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation. Crystal, we are simply benefactors of His grace. Without Him, it would indeed be to late for you and me and for everyone else! Trust in Him and all that He has revealed to us in His word! God bless, Steve |

785 | Why Is James Book So Different? | James | humbledbyhisgrace | 207294
tumbleweed, Below is the intro from the electronic version of the ESV translation I have on my computer. Also, there are a couple of links below. Read through what is said there and it might help. I'm sure there is more that can be said on this and lot's of references to comb through. Commonly referred to as "the Proverbs of the New Testament," the book of James practically and faithfully reminds Christians how to live. From perseverance to true faith to controlling one's tongue, submitting to God's will, and having patience, this book aids readers in living authentically and wisely for Christ. One of the earliest of the New Testament writings (a.d. 40–50), it is believed to have been written by Jesus' brother James. Many have claimed that James and the apostle Paul differed on the question of faith versus works, but in reality the spiritual fruit that James talks about—the picture of what faith looks like practically—demonstrates the true faith of which Paul wrote. Their writings are complementary rather than contradictory. - Intro from the electronic version of the ESV. http://www.gotquestions.org/Book-of-James.html http://www.angelfire.com/nt/theology/js-intr.html Steve |

786 | is salvation is eternal? | James 1:21 | humbledbyhisgrace | 191651
Greetings iusmar! Welcome to the Study Bible Forum! I would encourage you to read the following scriptures for starters 1 Corinthians 2:14, Romans 8:5-8 and Ephesians 2:1-10. As you have presented it, you seem to be pointing to works and to mankind as the source of saving themselves. This is not what the scriptures teach! Steve |

790 | How do you guys fight temptation? | James 5:16 | humbledbyhisgrace | 165734
Here is another good verse to think about and to go along with the other good scriptures and points that have been shared with you. Psalm 119:11 Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee. Ocelot and Mark both pointed out the importance of the Word of God. Psalm 119:11 is another scripture that points to this importance. Read it, study it, learn it, know it and never stop! Keep in mind, Jesus is our example. His life gives us an awesome example of how to live and handle things we will be faced with. If you will, take a look back at Mark's post and read again the scriptures he listed (Matthew 4:3-10). Notice what Jesus did? He used scripture to fight against the temptations He was faced with. If this is what our Lord would do, then we should follow His example with confidence. Remember, there is power in the word of God (Hebrews 4:12) Your brother in Christ, Steve |

793 | Jesus' sake rather than in Jesus' name? | 1 Pet 3:14 | humbledbyhisgrace | 193815
Greetings Huron, Perhaps for your own edification you should ask your Pastor what he means by this and not assume there is something to quibble about. Allow him to explain it to you! Consider this passage of scripture 1 Peter 3:13-17 1 Peter 3:13-17 (NASB) 3:13 Who is there to harm you if you prove zealous for what is good? 3:14 But even if you should suffer for the sake of righteousness, you are blessed. AND DO NOT FEAR THEIR INTIMIDATION, AND DO NOT BE TROUBLED, 3:15 but sanctify Christ as Lord in your hearts, always being ready to make a defense to everyone who asks you to give an account for the hope that is in you, yet with gentleness and reverence; 3:16 and keep a good conscience so that in the thing in which you are slandered, those who revile your good behavior in Christ will be put to shame. 3:17 For it is better, if God should will it so, that you suffer for doing what is right rather than for doing what is wrong. or this example in scripture Philippians 2:25-30 (NASB) 2:25 But I thought it necessary to send to you Epaphroditus, my brother and fellow worker and fellow soldier, who is also your messenger and minister to my need; 2:26 because he was longing for you all and was distressed because you had heard that he was sick. 2:27 For indeed he was sick to the point of death, but God had mercy on him, and not on him only but also on me, so that I would not have sorrow upon sorrow. 2:28 Therefore I have sent him all the more eagerly so that when you see him again you may rejoice and I may be less concerned about you. 2:29 Receive him then in the Lord with all joy, and hold men like him in high regard; 2:30 because he came close to death for the work of Christ, risking his life to complete what was deficient in your service to me. I can't speak for your Pastor but if he is a man of God I'm confident what he means when he says "for Jesus' sake" he is aligning with Jesus' cause, his purpose so to speak. Steve |

794 | Only One Gospel | 1 Pet 3:18 | humbledbyhisgrace | 202451
“This is the chief aim of the enemy’s assaults—to get rid of Christ, to get rid of the Atonement, to get rid of His suffering in the place of men! They say they can embrace the rest of the Gospel, but what, ‘rest,’ is there? What is there left? A bloodless, Christless Gospel is neither fit for the land nor for the dunghill—it neither honors God nor converts the sons of men.” -- Charles Haddon Spurgeon |

795 | Do we get saved by Baptism? | 1 Pet 3:21 | humbledbyhisgrace | 203802

796 | Do we get saved by Baptism? | 1 Pet 3:21 | humbledbyhisgrace | 203807
My Dear Brother, what does the church add in regards to our salvation? And here dear brother, was the church established at this point and what of the three things might we find missing and of what do we find here of the church? Ephesians 2:8-9 (NASB) 2:8 For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; 2:9 not as a result of works, so that no one may boast. Romans 10:9-10 (NASB) 10:9 that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; 10:10 for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation. Am I misunderstanding you? Steve |

797 | Do we get saved by Baptism? | 1 Pet 3:21 | humbledbyhisgrace | 203827
Let's go back to your original statement. You said "Now the question is and I will say this off the get go that if we take any one of these things do you still have salvation?" You were speaking of these three things, baptism, faith and repentance. It appears you are saying that if we take any of the three away we no longer have salvation. Is that what you were saying? To me it appeared that is what you were insinuating. Then you pointed out that the church had not yet been established and since then that salvation comes by a different method then it did before the church. At least that's what I'm getting out of your post. If in fact this is what you are saying, please explain. If not, then forgive me for misrepresenting your comments. Steve |

798 | Explain the meaning of 2 peter 1:13 | 2 Pet 1:13 | humbledbyhisgrace | 191150
Greetings Russell41! Welcome to the Study Bible Forum! The "tent" is referring to this earthly body. See also 2 Cor. 5:1, 4 See verse 12 for an explanation of what Peter is talking about regarding "stir you up". Also, notice Peter says in verse 12 "though you know them and are established in the truth that you have." (NASB) Therefore, we must agree with scripture and say yes! there is a "benefit to reminding people". We see here in this passage of the word of God that it is so. Peter, who was lead by the Holy Spirit to write these words clearly points out in verse 8 and 9 the importance. See verses 3-7 of what Peter is "stirring" them up / reminding them of. Go back and read the passage from verse 3-15 to put it all in context. God bless, Steve |

799 | Sin unto death | 1 John | humbledbyhisgrace | 202285
BB, The text does not allow for the interpretation you are teaching. 1 John 5:16 (NASB) If anyone sees his brother committing a sin not leading to death, he shall ask and God will for him give life to those who commit sin not leading to death. There is a sin leading to death; I do not say that he should make request for this. The text clearly speaks of a brother (i.e. a believer) committing a sin not leading to death. For a none believer, all their sins lead to death not just a specific sin or a specific type of sin. John 3:18 (NASB) "He who believes in Him is not judged; he who does not believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. I hope this is helpful! Steve |

800 | Sin unto death | 1 John | humbledbyhisgrace | 202297
Cheri, That is not what I was saying. What I attempted to point out was the fallacy in the teaching that this passage of scripture was teaching this was talking about non believers. BB stated “the only ones who can commit a "sin unto death" would be a non-believer.” This does not line up with what the verse says. See again 1 John 5:16. John is speaking specifically of a brother (i.e. believer). Steve |
