AMPLIFIED 2015 | 1 Peter 3:14 But even if you should suffer for the sake of righteousness [though it is not certain that you will], you are still blessed [happy, to be admired and favored by God]. DO NOT BE AFRAID OF THEIR INTIMIDATING THREATS, NOR BE TROUBLED or DISTURBED [by their opposition]. |
Bible Question:
In my church the pastor ended the prayer with "for Jesus' sake," rather "in Jesus' name." Should I ask him about this, or am I quibbling over nothing? Thanks! |
Bible Answer: Greetings Huron, Perhaps for your own edification you should ask your Pastor what he means by this and not assume there is something to quibble about. Allow him to explain it to you! Consider this passage of scripture 1 Peter 3:13-17 1 Peter 3:13-17 (NASB) 3:13 Who is there to harm you if you prove zealous for what is good? 3:14 But even if you should suffer for the sake of righteousness, you are blessed. AND DO NOT FEAR THEIR INTIMIDATION, AND DO NOT BE TROUBLED, 3:15 but sanctify Christ as Lord in your hearts, always being ready to make a defense to everyone who asks you to give an account for the hope that is in you, yet with gentleness and reverence; 3:16 and keep a good conscience so that in the thing in which you are slandered, those who revile your good behavior in Christ will be put to shame. 3:17 For it is better, if God should will it so, that you suffer for doing what is right rather than for doing what is wrong. or this example in scripture Philippians 2:25-30 (NASB) 2:25 But I thought it necessary to send to you Epaphroditus, my brother and fellow worker and fellow soldier, who is also your messenger and minister to my need; 2:26 because he was longing for you all and was distressed because you had heard that he was sick. 2:27 For indeed he was sick to the point of death, but God had mercy on him, and not on him only but also on me, so that I would not have sorrow upon sorrow. 2:28 Therefore I have sent him all the more eagerly so that when you see him again you may rejoice and I may be less concerned about you. 2:29 Receive him then in the Lord with all joy, and hold men like him in high regard; 2:30 because he came close to death for the work of Christ, risking his life to complete what was deficient in your service to me. I can't speak for your Pastor but if he is a man of God I'm confident what he means when he says "for Jesus' sake" he is aligning with Jesus' cause, his purpose so to speak. Steve |
