721 | Sin no more? | Ps 51:1 | mark d seyler | 144215
Hi Seedling, God bless you! You move quickly from the simple to the difficult! :-) Can I explain how that man, or us, can sin no more? All I can say is this: James 1:12 Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him. We endure temptation, but do not sin. 1 Cor 10:13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it. God protects us from "irresistable" temptations. All temptations are able to be resisted. I think (IMO) that Jesus wants to set the direction of our hearts, that we would not sin, even knowing that we are weak: Psalm 103:13 Like as a father pitieth his children, so the LORD pitieth them that fear him. 14 For he knoweth our frame; he remembereth that we are dust. Seedling, God desires that we do not sin, but has made a provision for when we fail in our efforts: 1 John 2:1 My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous: Everyday I pray God keep me strong, and not sin. Temptations come, and I pray that He keeps me strong to resist, and that He gains the victory for me. Everyday I manage to sin, and I so look forward to the day when I am perfected in Him, in Christ Jesus, and am no longer in fallen flesh. The short answer, how can we not sin? In His power. 722 | What is the difference? | Ps 51:1 | mark d seyler | 144147
Hi Seedling, Ps 51:1 To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David, when Nathan the prophet came unto him, after he had gone in to Bathsheba. Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness: according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions. 2 Wash me throughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin. 3 For I acknowledge my transgressions: and my sin is ever before me. Sin is translated from chatta'ah, which is from the root chata', which means, basically, "to miss", and refers to unintentional sin. You walk across the grass, not seeing the "do not walk on the grass" sign. Transgression is from pesha', and comes from a root meaning "to break away". This is rebellion. We see the sign, and walk on the grass anyway, by choice. Iniquity is from 'avon, and means crooked (i.e. twisted or bent), and refers to the perversity of our sinful nature, and speaks of inclination as a fallen race to go look for prohibited grass, that we would rip out the sign, and walk on, and dance on, and otherwise destroy our neighbor's lawn. I hope this helps! Love in Christ, Mark |

724 | Revelations 22:18-19? Unforgivable? | Mark 3:28 | mark d seyler | 142508
Hi Heyyoo79, Mark 3:28 Verily I say unto you, All their sins shall be forgiven unto the sons of men, and their blasphemies wherewith soever they shall blaspheme: 29 but whosoever shall blaspheme against the Holy Spirit hath never forgiveness, but is guilty of an eternal sin: 30 because they said, He hath an unclean spirit. Blasphemy - to vilify; specially, to speak impiously:--(speak) blaspheme(-er, -mously, -my), defame, rail on, revile, speak evil. (strongs) Blasphemy of the Holy Spirit, both by the wording, and by context, is to say that the Holy Spirit is unclean, or evil (vilify). Ex 32:33 And the LORD said unto Moses, Whosoever hath sinned against me, him will I blot out of my book. In being blotted from the Book of Life, this would certainly remove your share from the Tree of Life. For someone to intentionally act as you described, I can't imagine them actually having a relationship with God. The only other place the Bible speaks of someone losing access to the Tree of Life is Genesis 3:22 "And the LORD God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever:" The one who removes from the book of prophecy is one who will not live forever. The redeemed live forever, therefore, this is not one of the redeemed. I hope this helps! Love in Christ, Mark |

726 | End times/birth pains scripture? | Matt 24:1 | mark d seyler | 141917
Hi KathyInKY, Matthew 24:3 As He was sitting on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to Him privately, saying, "Tell us, when will these things happen, and what will be the sign of Your coming, and of the end of the age?" 4 And Jesus answered and said to them, "See to it that no one misleads you. 5 "For many will come in My name, saying, 'I am the Christ,' and will mislead many. 6 "You will be hearing of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not frightened, for those things must take place, but that is not yet the end. 7 "For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom, and in various places there will be famines and earthquakes. 8 "But all these things are merely the beginning of birth pangs." Jesus is saying these specific events will happen in the last days more frequently, and more intense, the closer we get. I hope this helps! Love in Christ, Mark |

Hi Chusarcik, Consider Hebrews 11:20 "By faith Isaac blessed Jacob and Esau, even regarding things to come." in referrence to this. Isaac may have recognized God's hand in what had happened, and have realized that God intended the blessing to go to Jacob. After all, Isaac was fooled by a goatskin tied to Jacob's skin? 728 | Can you prove eternal security? | 1 Pet 1:23 | mark d seyler | 141226
John 3:5-7 “Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.” 2 Corinthians 5:17”Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.” 1 Peter 1:23 “Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.” 1 John 3:9 “Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.” Hebrews 5:8-9 “Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered; And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him;” Salvation comes when we believe in Jesus. This belief is not just in that He exists, but in Who He is. He is my Master and Lord, whom I have been in rebellion to. He is God come as man to pay the penalty for my sin. Adam’s disobedience to God cost us our spiritual heritage. Adam was created in the image of Elohim, but in the day that he ate of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil he died. Though he continued to live, it was a living death. Though he reproduced, he was unable to reproduce the life he was created with, since it was lost, and so we are all born, as it were, dead. 1 Corinthians 15:22 “For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive.” Without the fullness of life, i.e. spiritual life, we don’t have any availability of having relationship with God, and we all rebel against Him. Romans 3:23 “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;” We are conceived in sin, and live in sin. Once we become willing to end our rebellion against God, and become obedient to Him, He becomes the author of our salvation. We cannot fool God. We can fool ourselves. We can see an appeal of the gospel, and want the goodies of salvation, but not be willing to actually hand over our self-determination to the Lord Jesus. We can tell ourselves that we are saved, and begin to serve a new legalism of church and whatever works we believe are required, and continue to do as we choose. But if we are sincere in our desire to enter into obedience, God knows this, and becomes the Author (originator) of our salvation. This salvation is re-birth. As in Adam we die, in Christ we are made alive! Having first being born of the flesh, now we are born of the spirit. We are born of incorruptible seed, which lives and abides (stays) forever. We are a new creature. We do not commit sin. God has literally separated us from our sin, from all sin, now and forever. He had to. It is only mankind who sees some sin worse and some better. In the eyes of God it is all the same. James 2:10 “For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.” Neither quantity nor a perceived “depth of depravity” make any difference. We were a natural man. We are born of the Spirit, as spirit. We are now something different than what we were. God sees us only as the new spiritual being we have become. He no longer regards the old creature we were. The new creature we are is not subject to the laws of sin and death (Romans 8:2 “For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.”). The old creature will continue to sin, to the extent that we allow it to (See Romans 7). The new creature cannot sin, being born of God. Our birthright from Adam is sinfulness. Our birthright from God is sinlessness. Jesus, born of the virgin Mary, conceived by the Holy Spirit, did not receive the sinful nature from Adam. When we are reborn, it is not from Adam’s seed, but from God’s incorruptible seed. This means that we are as sinless as was Christ. We cannot sin, for we are born of God! When we pass into the eternal state, the Bible tells us that we will be “clothed upon” with a new body, the mortal shall put on immortality. I Corinthians 15 tells us that we shall be changed, but the change is to our body. We are only waiting for our new body, we already have our new spirit! If we allow our old nature to continue in the works of the flesh, God will reprove and chastise us. We can be stopped from progressing in the works God has before ordained that we should walk in them (Hebrews 12:1 “Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,”). The incorruptible seed, the Word of God, which gives us our birth, lives and stays forever. These words, and so many more like them, are unequivical, to repeat, unequivical. Love in Christ Mark |

I think Kalos gave a good answer, I'll just add this: Gen 3:6 When the woman saw that the tree was good for food (the lust of the flesh), and that it was a delight to the eyes (the lust of the eyes), and that the tree was desirable to make one wise (the pride of life), she took from its fruit and ate; and she gave also to her husband with her, and he ate. Hi Chowing63, There are many differing opinions on the value of different manuscripts, and manuscript families. http://www.cob-net.org/compare.htm This web site (while expressing it's own opinion) has a great deal of information to familiarize you with the world of manuscript comparison. I would encourage you to search for additional information as well to get a balanced view of other people's opinions. Most importantly, pray about this. The Holy Spirit wrote the Bible, and He is the One Who speaks through it. He will let you know the truth about His Word. Ps 119:89-90 "Forever, O LORD, Your word is settled in heaven. Your faithfulness endures to all generations;" God will bring His Word to each of us, no matter how many hands of scribes, translators, committees, or whatever other hands His Word has passed through. Seek, and you shall find! Love in Christ, Mark |

732 | LITV | Bible general Archive 2 | mark d seyler | 137764
Hi Maroon, I have been using the LITV Jay P. Green translation for a few years now, and I think it is an extremely valuable translation. I wish that every Bible tranlator could make the same statements of faith, belief, and reverance that he makes in the forward to the NT. He does believe that the Received Text is the proper text to translate from, and many people disagree with that view, and fault him for it. As for myself, I think that there is some very strong evidence in favor of that view, however, I know that the Word of God is not just ink on paper, but the Holy Spirit speaking to us. (Psalm 119:89-90) To the comments posted saying those who "Love the LITV seem to Hate the modern translations. . ." I for one regularly use for my personal study the LITV (Green), Youngs Literal Translation, NASB, King James, New King James, Amplified, Berry's Interlinear, and occasionally a couple of other interlinears, and a dozen of so various translations including the Geneve, Darby's, Weymouth, Beck, and others. not nec. in that order :) I think the LITV would make a great gift, and I encourage all of us who give Christmas gifts to seek to spread the gospel through them. God bless you and yours! Love in Christ, Mark |

733 | What does honor mean to you? | 1 Pet 3:7 | mark d seyler | 135451
Hi xmikx, Welcome my friend! I know God will continue to bring you closer, and He will rejoice in your victory thru Him over these present trials. Honor refers to esteem and value. Think of your most prized possession, your all time favorite movie, your favorite food, your retirement nest egg, anything you value in your life. Give her more. More time, more attention, more thought, more care. I could tell you about how I do this with my wife, but each of us are different. What I can tell you is that our marraige was not what God wanted it to be until I gave myself completely. The benefit to her was that if there is a sacrifice to be made, I make it, not her. If there is something better to be had, she gets it, not me. She is served first. I fight her battles for her, when I can. I devote myself to her to do everything within my power to promote her spiritual growth. I don't have a "new and exciting way" to offer, but I can say that following the biblical model of marraige will position you and she to receive the blessing God has for you. Treating her as you want Jesus to treat you (forgiving, providing, interceding, loving) will lead to the new way you are looking for. Interceding - I cannot overstate our responsibility as husbands to pray for our wives. Peter also calls her the weaker vessel - be strong for her, in prayer, in the word and teaching, as the man of God who leads your home. God bless you and keep you! Love in Christ, Mark |

736 | mark of the beast, spiritual or literal? | Rev 13:16 | mark d seyler | 134808
Hi Justchris, Rev 13:16 And he causes all, the small and the great, and the rich and the poor, and the free men and the slaves, to be given a mark on their right hand or on their forehead, 17 and he provides that no one will be able to buy or to sell, except the one who has the mark, either the name of the beast or the number of his name. I don't see anything in the text that indicates this is symbolic. The plain reading is detailed and specific. This is not a mark upon the heart, but is on the hand or forehead. As I read this passage, it refers to an actual, literal mark, without which you will not be able to buy or sell, and with which you will share in the wrath of God. I encourage any who will listen to read the Bible expecting to be plainly told plain truth, and to not allegorize, spiritualize, or treat as symbolic any passage unless it is presented as such. I think the mark of the beast will put on the outside what is already on the inside. Love in Christ, Mark |

739 | A SIN TO FILE BANKRUPTCY | 1 Pet 4:10 | mark d seyler | 129630
Hi LisaKB, I think Prayon spoke well, in that our motive is important in determining what is sin to us. Romans 14:23 "whatever is not of faith is sin". My pastor once said in answering this question for another that should we seek the relief of bankruptcy, we should still endeavor to pay back what we owe, as Jesus said "let your yes be yes, and your no be no." Matt. 5:37. As one who has been tested and tried with financial difficulty, I encourage you to trust in the Lord to supply your needs, and to show you haw to use those resources given. Many times I did not know how things could possibly work out, but God has always come through, though not always as I would have thought. And always remember, "all things work for the good to them that love God, and are the called according to His purpose. For whom He did foreknow, He also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the first-born among many brothren." Rom 8:28-29. All that God is doing is to make us more like Jesus. Love in Christ, Mark |
