661 | Where should I turn?????? | Bible general Archive 2 | mark d seyler | 154494
Only God can accurately tell the future. Others who try, fail. Even the so-called accurate ones are not. Nostradamus, Cayce, others do not give details, are highly interpretive, and most of what they wrote really relates to nothing at all. The Bible, on the other hand, gives specific details hundreds and thousands of years before the event happen. Ezekiel prophesied that the city of Tyre would be scraped into the sea, and would be a place for the drying of net. The ruins of ancient Tyre were discovered by an archeologist who saw that the rocks some fishermen were drying their nets on seemed rather square. Turns out the little penninsula there was the remains of the city, after Alexander the Great had scraped it all into the sea. Ezekiel also prophesied that in the last days the nation of Isreal would be regathered to their homeland, and the desert would stop being a wasteland, and would blossom, and little Israel would fill the world with fruit. This has happened. So much more has happened. Literally hundreds of specific prophecies have been fulfilled exactly as the Bible said they would be. This is the proof. I would suggest that if God can, in the Bible, demonstrate His knowledge in this way, that you begin to pay attention to the rest of what He says. 664 | How is it possible to obey 2 Cor 6:14 if | 1 Cor 7:15 | mark d seyler | 153791
Hi Kalos, This is a very good question. Matthew 7:18 A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. 19 Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. 20 Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them. Mat 18:15 Moreover if thy brother shall trespass against thee, go and tell him his fault between thee and him alone: if he shall hear thee, thou hast gained thy brother. 16 But if he will not hear thee, then take with thee one or two more, that in the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established. 17 And if he shall neglect to hear them, tell it unto the church: but if he neglect to hear the church, let him be unto thee as an heathen man and a publican. My understanding from these passages is that, since we cannot actually know what is in another's heart, we have to go by what we see in their lives. If we see the fruit of repentance, and sanctification, we should act according to how our Lord commands us to act towards the believer. If we do not see the fruit of repentance and sancfification, then, even though they may actually be a brother, "let them be to us as a heathen". We should act toward them as our Lord commands us to act towards the unbeliever. As always, our eyes will be much more able to see if we are actually subservient to the Lord, and not just trying to get out of something, or to gain some advantage for ourselves. Prayer must cover all. I hope this helps! Love in Christ, Mark |

666 | How did John come to baptize? | Mal 3:1 | mark d seyler | 153304
Hi Amber11150, The Bible doesn't directly tell us, but here are some verses to look at: Mal 3:1 Behold, I will send my messenger, and he shall prepare the way before me: and the Lord, whom ye seek, shall suddenly come to his temple, even the messenger of the covenant, whom ye delight in: behold, he shall come, saith the LORD of hosts. Isa 40:3 The voice of him that crieth in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the LORD, make straight in the desert a highway for our God. Mat 3:1 In those days came John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judaea, 2 And saying, Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand. 3 For this is he that was spoken of by the prophet Esaias, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight. Joh 1:33 And I knew him not: but he that sent me to baptize with water, the same said unto me, Upon whom thou shalt see the Spirit descending, and remaining on him, the same is he which baptizeth with the Holy Ghost. So at this point we can only presume that He Who sent John was the Same Who sent John to baptize, and the preparation made was a proclamation and invitation to be baptized to repentance. I hope this helps! Love in Christ, Mark |

667 | Dr. Rebecca Brown? | 2 Pet 1:3 | mark d seyler | 153298
Hi Journey Me, I have not read these books, so I cannot comment on them, except to say that your should be extremely careful reading things like these, because there is much out there that is not Biblical. Should you read them, check everything against scripture. Before you read them, study what the Bible says first. 2Pe 1:2 Grace to you, and peace be multiplied by a full knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord. 2Pe 1:3 As His divine power has given to us all things pertaining to life and godliness through the full knowledge of the One calling us through glory and virtue, 2Pe 1:4 by which means He has given to us the very great and precious promises, so that through these you might be partakers of the divine nature, escaping from the corruption in the world by lust. God has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness. As you continue in your discipleship, growing closer to God, more like Him, He makes you capable to handle everything that comes into your life. There is a spiritual warfare. Eph 6:10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. 11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. 14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; 15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. 17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: 18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints; You don't have to know "what's out there". If you did, God would have given more detail in the Bible. Theology and doctrine were not lacking until Dr. Brown wrote her books. What you have to know is who you are in Christ, and what His purpose for your life is. Pray about this, and listen to the Spirit inside you. If He directs you to read these books, read them, prayerfully, comparing to scripture. If He doesn't, then stay away from them. The main thing is to read, study, and meditate on the Bible. If you do that, God will give you all you need. I hope this helps. Love in Christ, Mark |

668 | I and the Father are one, and One who | Jon 4:2 | mark d seyler | 153253
Hi Ray, What would be the difference between the NKJ and the NASB on this last phrase of Jonah 4:2? I just don't see how capitalization or non-capitalization of "one" changes the meaning of the verse. Is not Jonah speaking to and of God in either instance? Ray, what does this text say in the NKJ that it does or does not say in the NASB? Love in Christ, mark |

669 | The place | 1 Cor 5:1 | mark d seyler | 153251
Hi Towanda, I just realized I missed part of your question: Where is the place He has prepared for us? I don't know of anywhere the Bible answers that exactly. Some say He is talking about the new body. I think the New Jerusalem, maybe. What I really think Jesus is talking about is the Jewish wedding. He is going to His Father's house to build a room for His bride, the church, and when the time is right, He'll come back for us. Love in Christ, Mark |
||||||
670 | The place | 1 Cor 5:1 | mark d seyler | 153250
Hi Towanda, I’ll try your second question. John 14:2-3 "In My Father's house are many dwellings; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. 3 "And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also. Jesus is saying He will come back to take His disciples to the place He has prepared while He was gone. 2 Co 5:4 For we who are in this tent groan, being burdened, not because we want to be unclothed, but further clothed, that mortality may be swallowed up by life. 5 Now He who has prepared us for this very thing is God, who also has given us the Spirit as a guarantee. 6 So we are always confident, knowing that while we are at home in the body we are absent from the Lord. 7 For we walk by faith, not by sight. 8 We are confident, yes, well pleased rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord. Its not our wish to die, and leave this body, but rather, to be raptured, and put on the eternal body without ever experiencing physical death, the putting off of our body. But if we do die, we are with the Lord. We believe in Him Who put His Spirit in us, and we know the if we do die, we are with Him, because we walk by faith, not by sight. Walking by faith means that we count on what the Bible tells us, not what we see with our eyes. What does the Bible tell us, and what do we see with our eyes, concerning our being with the Lord? What we see is this world, what we do not see is Jesus. Col 3:3 For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. We are born, we sin, and we spend the rest of our lives just waiting for the rest of death to catch up, and to die physically. But then we are born again. This is our spiritual resurrection. Spiritually, we have died with Christ, we are raised with Christ, and we are in heaven with Christ. Eph 2:5 (God) made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), 6 and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, The Bible teaches us that we have already died and gone to heaven, to be with Jesus, as a completed action. 6 So we are always confident, knowing that while we are at home in the body we are absent from the Lord. 7 For we walk by faith, not by sight. 8 We are confident, yes, well pleased rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord. While we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord, for we walk by faith and not by sight. In what sense are we absent from the Lord? We know that God lives in us, and that He is everywhere. We are both physically and spiritually in His presence. We are absent from the Lord in sight. If our walk were by sight, this would be to physically see Jesus, and to see heaven. We do not see Him yet, so our walk is by faith. We are “at home” in our body. This is where our consciousness is, our sight. We are in bodies that belong in this temporal environment, that are not able to exist, or to be aware of, the heavenly realm. But where else are we? We are “hid with Christ in God”, “seated in the heavenlies with Jesus.” When we die, or “sleep”, we no longer see through our eyes, or touch with our hands, or are active in the physical world. But death does not change our spiritual existance. We are still hid with Christ in God. We are just no longer tethered to a body that limits our sensory experience to the physical world. We sleep in the sense that we cease to experience the physical world, but we’ve already had our spiritual resurrection. What happens when we wake up? We return to the sensory input of our body. And when we receive our immortal, heavenly bodies, they will be made for heavenly existance, not limited to experiencing just physical life, but also capable of perceiving and experiencing the spiritual reality. When we die, we become completely conscious of our fellowship with Jesus. At the resurrection, as our consciousness awakes in our immortal bodies, this fellowship doesn’t diminish. 1 Thess 5:9 For God did not appoint us to wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, 10 who died for us, that whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with Him. Spiritually, we are already in our eternal state 2 Co 4:16 Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day. 17 For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory, 18 while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. Different people have various ideas about this, this is mine - I hope it helps! Love in Christ, Mark |

672 | How can he live? | 2 Cor 5:17 | mark d seyler | 152903
Hi Acts238, In the Law, if a man was sexually mutilated or misformed, he was barred from the temple. (Lev. 21:17-21) In the New Covenant, we are new creatures, and all is forgiven, and we are accepted in Christ. But then comes the question, as you asked, how then shall we live? The easy answer is "how God intended us to live." 1 Peter 2:25 "For ye were as sheep going astray; but are now returned unto the Shepherd and Bishop of your souls." I need to back up a step to look at this correctly. When someone has a surgery to alter their body, they have not "changed sex". Gen 1:27 "So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them." God created us male and female, and we do not alter how He made us because we have become clever enough to alter our physique. Everything reproduces after it's own kind, and even though someone changes their appearance or functions, they do not change what God made them. This may be a difficult answer to receive, and I pray that the Holy Spirit will do the work that is required. We must repent of our sins, and live a repentant life. Any sinful actions that are currently being engaged in must stop. A man is not to wear a woman's clothing. A man is not to lie with a man as he would a woman. Celebacy may be the best solution to living a Godly life. If drugs are being used for the purpose of continuing in a rebellious lifestyle, they should be discontinued. Obviously a doctor needs to be involved, and I would suggest this person should seek a mature Christian doctor to consult. If the previous surgery is unable to be completely reversed, it can still be partly reversed and combined with male hormones, enabling one to still live as a man, although living with the consequence of prior sin. Many of us live with our consequences, but with the hope of complete restoration and redemption in the age to come. God will make a way, for the person who truly wants to serve Him. 674 | What is Jerusalem? | Ps 122:1 | mark d seyler | 152501
Hi Ruth101, 1 I was glad when they said to me, "Let us go to the house of the LORD." 2 Our feet are standing Within your gates, O Jerusalem, 3 Jerusalem, that is built As a city that is compact together; 4 To which the tribes go up, even the tribes of the LORD-- An ordinance for Israel-- To give thanks to the name of the LORD. 5 For there thrones were set for judgment, The thrones of the house of David. 6 Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: "May they prosper who love you. 7 "May peace be within your walls, And prosperity within your palaces." 8 For the sake of my brothers and my friends, I will now say, "May peace be within you." 9 For the sake of the house of the LORD our God, I will seek your good. Jerusalem is the city which is the capital of Israel, which shelters its inhabitants. I believe this is a literal reference to the city because: a) There is nothing to indicate otherwise. b) There are several references to the city, its walls, and gates. This speaks of a literal city. c) It is referred to as the place of the thrones of David, the palace, and the temple. I hope this helps! Love in Christ, Mark |

677 | Copyist error - Yes, but must be more. | 2 Sam 8:4 | mark d seyler | 151825
Hi David, Even believing that there may have been a error in copying the Holy Writings, later copyists, and now tranlsators and publisher, do not want to change the text, but rather to leave it as they found it. Hebrew scribes have sometimes made marginal notations, called "glosses", indicating that they believed an error in copying had been made, but would not dare to introduce an intentional change. To me, this argues favorable toward the accurate transmission of the Bible. Even when an apparently obvious, easily correctable copyist error was discovered, they would not dream of changing it. Much more so with the remaining 99.999999999 percent of the text. Love in Christ, Mark |

Hi Ray, I will apologize in advance for answering a question with a question. I have seen you pick and choose from a variety of translations, selecting one over the other, because of pronouns. Do you do this based on textual evidence of which is the closer translation to the original? Or do you do this based on which translation conforms to a pattern of pronoun usage?
