64 | motivation twords faith | Bible general Archive 2 | prayon | 126289
Greetings Mike, One thing that can have a lot to do with motivation to read the bible is whether you understand what you are reading. If you don't understand what you are reading it can not hold your interest. I suggest the first thing you do is to find a bible that you can enjoy reading. I like the God's Word translation. Another one that is easy to read and understand is the Message Bible. These are just 2 there are many more out there. In addition don't try to over do it. There is no rush. Just read a chapter or 2 a day. There are a few "read the bible in a year" outlines you can also go by. These can help you stay on track. Happy Reading!!! prayon

66 | WAS MY IMPORTANT DIVORCE A SIN | Bible general Archive 2 | prayon | 126291
Greetings, Mat 19:6 says "So that they are no more two, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder" ASV. Any man that brings violence and abuse into his family life is putting asunder the marriage covenant that God has blessed. The violence is what breads up the marriage and the one responsible for that violence is the one responsible for the divorce. YOu committed no sin. Instead you used wisdom. Many people do not understand what it takes to get out of an abuse situation, I do because I have been there and I commmend you. prayon
67 | WAS I THE ONE THAT GOT IT | Bible general Archive 2 | prayon | 126385
Greetings, Even though you initiated the "divorce" proceedings you are not the one responsible. You did nothing to bread up the marriage your spouse did it all. The "divorce" was not the end of your marriage the violence ended your marriage, and the one responsible for the violence is responsible for the end of the marriage. The "divorce" is only in fact a public acknowledgement of the private truth that a marriage has been destroyed by violence. Although I am sure it was a painful process you were only taking the steps necessary to remove you and your child from an destructive and dangerous situation. Hope this answers your question. prayon |

70 | principle of Biblical interpretation | Bible general Archive 2 | prayon | 128407
Greetings geof and welcome to the forum. Is there a principle in interpreting the bible? Yes! There are many. Some include the principle of word study, the principle of context, the principle of parallelism, and the principle of culture. There is a very good book that I used in school called "Knowing Scripture" by R. C. Sproul. If you would like to delve into interpretation I suggest you read this book to get an understanding of it. As or different denominations they almost all interpret things in different ways. Some get their interpretation from history of their denomination, some get it from making the bible fit their needs. The best thing to do is to study the word and see how God would lead you to understanding. Hope this helps. prayon

72 | Why bad things happen? | Bible general Archive 2 | prayon | 135199
Greetings p139girl, I used to always ask the same question. I discovered that God allows bad things to happen to help us to grow in character and strength. He also allows us to go through trials so that we can use the experience later in life. For example, I went through spouse abuse. Now that I look back I have discovered that if I had not gone through the experience I would of never been able to help other woman who were involved in the same situation. If I had never experienced it I would of never been able to understand how the woman felt. Another thing that I have learned is that it was at these times that I learned to lean on God and trust in Him. My relationship with Him grew powerfully. God is in control of all things and He will turn bad situations around and use them for the good - Look for His hand in the situation. It will be there somewhere. While you are going through these bad times stop for a minute and do these couple things: 1) Ask God what He would have you to learn from the situation. 2) Look for the good things in the situation. I have learned that there is ALWAYS a blessing in every situation. Count and list the blessings that you can find. 3) Ask Him for direction in how to respond to the situation around you. "He will never leave you or forsake you". And Remember, "Lean not to your own understanding but in all ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your path". Turn to Him for the comfort you seek. I know that God will take the experience you will gain and use it to help someone else. You may be the only support another person has. God Bless you. prayon |

I would also recommend this Be sure to pray before you study and ask God to show you what He would have you to learn and for Him to guard your heart and mind while you are studying. prayon
75 | Which book in the Bible do I commence | Bible general Archive 2 | prayon | 141369
Greetings, I agree with greentwiga that John is the best book to read for a new believer, but if I understand you right you are not a new believer. I will answer your question with a question - What version are you reading? The King James version is a beautiful version but I believe it is not the best one to use to get an understanding as you seem you want to do. If I was to recommend a bible version for you I would recommend that you use a God's Word translation or use the message bible. Both are much easier to understand and much easier to follow. Hope this helps you. prayon
76 | Which book in the Bible do I commence | Bible general Archive 2 | prayon | 141412
Hi, When I went to ministry college one of the things I had to do was read the entire bible. A good bit of it I listened to on tape in the car while driving. I had a version that had some sound effects with it and it was great to listen to. People learn in different ways, so I believe that if you learn better by listening than by reading then there is nothing wrong with listening to the tapes. I am adding from Matt 6 concerning the Lords prayer from the Message Bible to let you know why I think it is a great book to read to understand. Have a blessed day! prayon Mat 6:1 "Be especially careful when you are trying to be good so that you don't make a performance out of it. It might be good theater, but the God who made you won't be applauding. Mat 6:2 "When you do something for someone else, don't call attention to yourself. You've seen them in action, I'm sure--'playactors' I call them--treating prayer meeting and street corner alike as a stage, acting compassionate as long as someone is watching, playing to the crowds. They get applause, true, but that's all they get. Mat 6:3 When you help someone out, don't think about how it looks. Mat 6:4 Just do it--quietly and unobtrusively. That is the way your God, who conceived you in love, working behind the scenes, helps you out. Mat 6:5 "And when you come before God, don't turn that into a theatrical production either. All these people making a regular show out of their prayers, hoping for stardom! Do you think God sits in a box seat? Mat 6:6 "Here's what I want you to do: Find a quiet, secluded place so you won't be tempted to role-play before God. Just be there as simply and honestly as you can manage. The focus will shift from you to God, and you will begin to sense his grace. Mat 6:7 "The world is full of so-called prayer warriors who are prayer-ignorant. They're full of formulas and programs and advice, peddling techniques for getting what you want from God. Mat 6:8 Don't fall for that nonsense. This is your Father you are dealing with, and he knows better than you what you need. Mat 6:9 With a God like this loving you, you can pray very simply. Like this: Our Father in heaven, Reveal who you are. Mat 6:10 Set the world right; Do what's best-- as above, so below. Mat 6:11 Keep us alive with three square meals. Mat 6:12 Keep us forgiven with you and forgiving others. Mat 6:13 Keep us safe from ourselves and the Devil. You're in charge! You can do anything you want! You're ablaze in beauty! Yes. Yes. Yes. Mat 6:14 "In prayer there is a connection between what God does and what you do. You can't get forgiveness from God, for instance, without also forgiving others. Mat 6:15 If you refuse to do your part, you cut yourself off from God's part. |

77 | What's up with the people of Nazareth? | Bible general Archive 2 | prayon | 141415
Greetings, This was a man that was familiar to them. This was Joseph's son afterall - the guy who lived just a few doors down. Too often we do not see that which is right beside us and this was surely a good part of the reason they didn't believe. Another reason was the same as people everywhere. They expected the Lord to make a grand entrance - with trumpets and angels announcing His arrival - not the quiet peaceful entrance that the Lord did make - a little baby born in a stable among the animals. Hope this helps. prayon |

80 | WHY 400 YRS BETWEEN TESTAMENTS | Bible general Archive 2 | prayon | 144743
Greetings, As searcher said the bible does not give us any reason for the 430 years of silence. Although God was prophetically silent the hand of God was active during this time directing the course of events which followed the pattern predicted in Daniel (2:24,45; 7:1-28; 8:1-27; and 11:1-35). prayon
