43 | Are your answers authoritative? | Bible general Archive 2 | prayon | 95119
Greetings Darcy, I disagree. Every forum needs a group to watch over it. Many times there are Jehovah's Witnesses, Mormons, atheists, ect. on this forum that attempt to lure baby Christians who do not know the Word over to their 'denomination'. So if only for the sake of these babies a forum needs to be overseen. prayon
44 | why is it we were never meant to change | Bible general Archive 2 | prayon | 95191
Greeetings, As Makarios there are many aspects of your remarks I could address that show you truly have no idea of what the bible says but I will only address one thing. Your comment " a loving god (far be it for me to think i can think anything like god) would never doom so many "heathens" to death year after year." God did not comdemn any one to death. We condemn ourselves. All God asks of us is that we accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior and live according to the principles set forth in the bible. We are the ones who choose to not honor His request, thus condemning ourselves to death. prayon |

48 | parts of the bible | Bible general Archive 2 | prayon | 109609
Greetings and welcome to the forum. Exodus was believed to be the first book of the bible written in the 15th century B.C. The Bible consists of two great parts, called the Old and New Testaments, separated by an interval of nearly four hundred years. These Testaments are further divided into sixty-six books, thirty-nine in the Old Testament and twenty-seven in the New. Twenty-two of them are historical, five are poetical, eighteen are prophetical, twenty-one are epistolary. They contain logical arguments, poetry, songs and hymns, history, biography, stories, parables, fables, eloquence, law, letters and philosophy. There are at least thirty-six different authors, who wrote in three continents, in many countries, in three languages, and from every possible human standpoint. Among these authors were kings, farmers, mechanics, scientific men, lawyers, generals, fishermen, ministers and priests, a tax-collector, a doctor, some rich, some poor, some city bred, some country born -- thus touching all the experiences of men extending over 1500 years. The Old Testament was written in Hebrew, a Shemitic language, except that parts of the books of Ezra, Daniel and one verse in Jeremiah were written in the Chaldee language. The New Testament is written wholly in Greek. The present division of the whole Bible into chapters was made by Cardinal Hugo Deuteronomy St. Gher about 1250. The present division into verses was introduced by Robert Stephens in his Greek Testament, published in 1551, in his edition of the Vulgate, in 1555. The first English Bible printed with these chapters and verses was the Geneva Bible, in 1560. Hope this answers your questions. prayon (MacArthur Study Bible, Smith's Bible Dictionary) |

50 | what are some pitfalls to commitment? | Bible general Archive 2 | prayon | 109816
Greetings, 1Pe 5:8 says to be sensible and vigilant, because your adversary the Devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking someone he may devour. A lion will devour you in any way he can and in any circumstance he can. Any thing that would take your mind and heart off of Jesus is fair game for the devil and he will use every opportunity to lure you away from your commitment to God. prayon |

56 | searching for wisdom | Bible general Archive 2 | prayon | 111135
Greetings, I would tell you to obey the voice of the Holy Spirit above all. Many times we become so comfortable in a place that we do not grow anymore. The Holy Spirit has a way of moving us to take us out of our comfort zone and put us in a position where we can be challenged and be able to once again grow. I am not telling you this is what you should do - that is up to the Holy Spirit to tell you what to do. If you believe that God has told you to move on then by all means do it. If you are not sure ask God to give you confirmation and He will; but be sure to not reject that comfirmation of whichever way it leads you. It is possible to do just that because of the history you have with the church that you mentioned above. It is very hard for some people to leave behind what they know and are comfortable with and step out in faith but we have to do just that. We have to learn to place our lives in His hands and step out whether we understand it or not. A few years ago I was told by the Holy Spirit to get ready I would be leaving. My reaction to Him "you must be joking God I am trying to buy a house". Well He wasn't joking. After more comfirmations than I should of needed I packed myself and my children up and came to a place where I knew no one, I had no job, no place to live, and did not have the least idea of why I was here. But God moved on my behalf in ways that were amazing. Trust in Him and lean not to thine own understanding.... On the other hand if He tells you not to leave then stay where you are and pray for the leadership. Submit to the authority that God has placed over you unless there is a clear and direct violation of scripture. In the future God will reward you for your obedience and will full the law of seedtime and harvest (you reap what you sow) in their lives. I hope I have helped. Let me know what happens I will be very interested. prayon |

58 | who is the pharisees | Bible general Archive 2 | prayon | 124179
Greetings LSmith, Their were two groups of religous leaders in Jesus' time - The Pharisee's and the Saducee's. The Pharisee's were noted most for their exact observance of the Jewish religion, their acurate exposition of the law, and the handing down of the extrabiblical customs and traditions. The Pharisee's believed in strict adherence to the law. They held a moderate position with regard to the interplay of fate and free will. They believed in the coming resurrection and in angels. The beliefs of the Pharisee's prevailed among the common people. They also believed in immortality. The Saducee's on the other hand were the ones who held the political power. They were usually wealthy arisacats. They accepted only the written "Torah" and rejected the oral interpretation of the Torah accepted by the Pharisee's. The obeyed only the literal interpretation of the written law. They rejected the doctrine of the future resurrection, did not believe in angels and spirits and denied immotality. They also did not believe in fate but believed that everything happened because of man's free will. Hope this helps to clarify. prayon |

60 | do i have to worship loudly? | Bible general Archive 2 | prayon | 124890
Greetings and welcome to the forum! First let me say that you will not go to hell. You go to hell on the condition of your heart - not on how you praise. I somewhat agree with what Norm said but I want to add to it. Most of the time instead of the singing part of the service being called worship it is called "praise and worship". Services should be a mixture of both praise and worship. Worship is quieter and more reverant. Praise is the opposite. Praise is as Norm said - making a joyful noise to the Lord. Darlene Zschech ( a well known praise and worship leader) said it this way in her book"Extravagant Worship": "Praise is not a happy-clappy song. Praise is not the fast songs before the nice, slow worship songs. Praise is a declaration, a victory cry, proclaiming faith to stand firm in the place God has given you. does tell us to shout and dance in praise to the Lord. SHOUT! Darlene Zschech defines shout this way: A shout commmands attention. A shout demonstates enthusiasm, confidence and determination. Psa 47:1b Clap your hands, all you people. Shout to God with a loud, joyful song. Psa 98:6 with trumpets and the playing of a ram's horn. Shout happily in the presence of the king, the LORD God also does tell us to dance: 1Sa 18:6b They sang and danced, accompanied by tambourines, joyful music, and triangles. 2Sa 6:14 David danced in the LORD'S presence with all his might. Exo 15:20 Then the prophet Miriam, Aaron's sister, took a tambourine in her hand. All the women, dancing with tambourines, followed her. . . So many people were brought up as you were where shouting, dancing and singing makes you uncomfortable. I was brought up that way. The first time I went to a pentecostal church I was very uncomfortable but there was a spirit there that kept drawing me back. Once I finally shook off the "uncomfortableness" I experienced a freedom that I never imagined. The bible does tell us to make a joyful noise (see list of scriptures from Norm). The God's Word translation uses the word "shout" instead of joyful noise. I will leave you with something that someone left me with years ago that helped me alot. Do you like to go to a sports event - like a football game or a basketball game. Imagine yourself in a situation of great excitement, such as your favotite team just scored a touchdown. Now I ask you these question. You jump and scream at the top of your lungs at the touchdown, but just what did that football touchdown ever do for you? On the other hand we have Jesus who died an extremely agonizing death for you so that you could have life, who comforts you, provides for you protects you and you don't feel comfortable shouting praises to Him? When I thought about that I got the point. I forced myself over my uncomfort. I hope you will do the same. Go to a place where you are totally alone and just yell Haleluja and Thank you Jesus repeatedly as loud as you can. I promise you that you will start feeling more comfortable about it. Psa 98:1 A psalm. Sing a new song to the LORD because he has done miraculous things. As for your son- At 17 he is old enough to make the decision for himself. Let him experience the different types of praise and worship. Your son is not spiritually dead but there may just be a part of the Holy Spirit that is "locked away" that his friend will help him to let out. As for his friend - tellhim that I understand where he is coming from due to my past experience. He knows the power that praise and worship can let loose in a life and he wants to share it. Tell him for me that his enthusiasm is commendable - especially for teens today but that he should share the joy he found without being judgemental of peoples lives. Tell him also what I told you in the first sentence. Thanks. Have a blessed day. I hope I have helped in some way. prayon |
